2011 NFL Mock Draft: As the 2010 Season Begins, We Take a Look at the Future
So we are one week down in the NFL and though many of the games have been low scoring and outright sloppy, we still have been able to get a look at some of this year's contenders and pretenders. And with the college season now in full swing, let us take a look at a 2011 mock draft.
Team rankings are based on my expected year-end predictions
32.) Green Bay Packers: Ryan Williams, RB Virginia Tech
1 of 32
The Packers get great value on Williams who will compete with Ryan Grant for the starting role.
31.) Baltimore Ravens: Greg Jones, LB, Michigan State
2 of 32
Speaking of players to replace current stars, the Ravens take Jones to work under Ray Lewis for the next one to two years.
30.) Indianapolis Colts: Stefen Wisniewski, C, Penn State
3 of 32
Getting scared by Jeff Saturday's injury issues, the Colts draft a center of the future to learn the position.
29.) New Orleans Saints: Jermale Hines, S, OSU
4 of 32
The Saints draft Hines after they say farewell to the aging Darren Sharper.
28.) New York Jets: Kyle Rudolph, TE, Notre Dame
5 of 32
With Mark Sanchez excelling best in the short to intermediate routes, the Jets draft another tight end to work with Dustin Keller.
27.) Cincinnati Bengals: Jacquizz Rodgers, RB, Oregon State
6 of 32
The Bengals take the speedy, shifty rusher to add a new element to the Bengal offense, adding a nice complement to Cedric Benson.
26.) Minnesota Vikings: Jurrell Casey, DT, USC
7 of 32
With all the prime quarterbacks off the board, the Vikings start their transition of moving past the Williams and Williams defensive tackle clan, taking Casey in the first round.
25.) San Francisco 49ers: Prince Amukamara, CB, Nebraska
8 of 32
The 49ers get more depth in the defensive backfield, taking Amukamara, a very physical cornerback.
24.) San Diego Chargers: Michael Floyd, WR, Notre Dame
9 of 32
The Chargers get their replacement for Vincent Jackson by drafting Floyd.
23.) Dallas Cowboys: Nate Potter, T, Boise State
10 of 32
It's become clear that the Cowboys need new linemen and start the process by taking Potter.
22.) Houston Texans: Rahim Moore, S, UCLA
11 of 32
The Texans take the highest rated safety on the board to help shore up the defense for the rising Texans.
21.) Seattle Seahawks: Ryan Mallett, QB, Arkansas
12 of 32
The Seahawks surprise everyone with a great year and make the playoffs behind Matt Hasselbeck's good year. However, with him being 36 next year, the 'Hawks take Mallett to be the new QB of the future.
20.) Atlanta Falcons: Marvin Austin, DT, UNC
13 of 32
The Falcons go for one of the best players available on the board with Austin.
19.) New England Patriots: Ras-I Dowling, CB, UVA
14 of 32
The Patriots are very thin at this position and will take Dowling to help continue the youth infusion on defense.
18.) Pittsburgh Steelers: Julio Jones, WR, Alabama
15 of 32
The Steelers will get good value on this pick to provide a future one-two receiver combination of Jones and Mike Wallace.
17.) Tennessee Titans: Jonathan Baldwin, WR, Pitt
16 of 32
The 6'5" receiver will be a new prime target for Vince Young, whose current "No. 1" receiver is Nate Washington.
16.) New York Giants: Akeem Ayers, LB, UCLA
17 of 32
The Giants continue their defensive overhaul by drafting Ayers to help rush the opposition's tackles.
15.) Washington Redskins: Evan Royster, RB, Penn State
18 of 32
The Redskins replace the former Penn State great Larry Johnson with another in Royster.
14.) Miami Dolphins: Mike Pouncey, G, Florida
19 of 32
The Dolphins just miss the postseason, and shore up their line by taking the local kid.
13.) New England Patriots (Via '09 Oakland Trade) Mark Ingram, RB, Alabama
20 of 32
Whether it was the Raiders or Patriots, I would see either team making this selection. The Patriots' most reliable running back is arguably Kevin Faulk, who is now in his mid-30s. The Patriots go for the Heisman running back to finally get a No. 1 back in New England.
12.) Carolina Panthers: Cameron Heyward, DE, OSU
21 of 32
The Panthers need to replace the departed Julius Peppers and look to do so with Heyward.
11.) Philadelphia Eagles: Aaron Williams, CB, Texas
22 of 32
The Eagles shore up their coverage team selecting Williams to play alongside Asante Samuel.
10.) Arizona Cardinals: Gabe Carimi, T, Wisconsin
23 of 32
Despite their QB issues, the Cardinals decide to shore up their offensive line and address their look for a gunslinger later in the draft.
9.) Denver Broncos: Adrian Clayborn, DE, Iowa
24 of 32
Denver learns a lesson after losing Elvis Dumervil that it needs new pass-rushing threats and take Clayborn.
8.) Chicago Bears: Anthony Castonzo, T, BC
25 of 32
The Bears are desperate for offensive linemen and finally address the need with this pick.
7.) Kansas City Chiefs: Bruce Carter, LB, UNC
26 of 32
He's not extremely high on most draft boards, but the Chiefs are pretty thin at the linebacker position and will reach up and take Carter.
6.) St. Louis Rams: A.J. Green, WR, Georgia
27 of 32
Sam Bradford gets a new weapon as the Rams take Green, the best receiver on the board.
5.) Jacksonville Jaguars: Andrew Luck, QB, Stanford
28 of 32
The Jags give up on David Garrard, who has reached his full potential and start anew by taking Luck.
4.) Detroit Lions: Patrick Peterson, CB, LSU
29 of 32
Detroit needs secondary help in the worst way and takes Peterson.
3.) Cleveland Browns: Robert Quinn, DE, UNC
30 of 32
Another end comes off the board as Quinn is a defensive freak of nature and the Browns need help in almost every position.
2.) Tampa Bay Bucs: Marcell Dareus, DT, Alabama
31 of 32
The Bucs haven't had a star large athletic defensive tackle since Warren Sapp. Dareus is an end right now but has the size to become that kind of player for the Bucs.
1.) Buffalo Bills: Jake Locker, QB, Washington
32 of 32
The Bills are in absolutely desperate need of a franchise quarterback. It's really scary to say that this team hasn't had any stability since Doug Flutie.
