2010 NFL Power Rankings: Bleacher Report's Week 2 Edition
Week one of the NFL 2010 regular season is in the books and it is time for the power rankings update.
This past weekend did not disappoint unless you are a fan of one of the losing teams like me and my Cleveland Browns.
Once again, I am Daniel Wolf and I am the AFC Featured Content Coordinator and Assignment Desk Editor for Bleacher Report and this is week one's NFL power rankings.
32. Oakland Raiders
1 of 32
2010 Record: 0-1
Last game: Lost 38-13 to the Titans
Last week's ranking: 25
The Raiders got their butt's kicking by Chris Johnson and the Titans.
While running back Darren McFadden had a solid performance, the rest of the team did not back him up including new starting quarterback Jason Campbell.
This week: Home versus St. Louis Rams
31. Carolina Panthers
2 of 32
2010 Record: 0-1
Last week: Lost 31-18 to the Giants
Last week ranking: 22
The Giants whipped quarterback Matt Moore in his first start as the team starter, but he needs to not throw three interceptions otherwise he will no longer hold that title of starting quarterback.
Big fall due to the blow out against New York.
Next game: Home versus Tampa Bay Buccaneers
30. Buffalo Bills
3 of 32
2010 Record: 0-1
Last game: Lost 15-10 to Dolphins
Last week's ranking: 30
The Bills offense was inept to say the least and rookie running back C.J. Spiller was a non-factor in the game too.
Not the best way to start off the new season.
Next week: At Green Bay Packers
29. Cleveland Browns
4 of 32
2010 Record: 0-1
Last game: Lost to Buccaneers 17-14
Last week's ranking: 27
Quarterback Jake Delhomme threw two interceptions and even though he started off good, he finish the game looking like his 2009 self and he injured his right ankle that got an MRI on Monday.
All bad signs for Cleveland, who actually owned the Bucs until Delhomme threw his first pick and everything else unraveled.
Next week: Home versus Kansas City Chiefs
28. St. Louis Rams
5 of 32
2010 Record: 0-1
Last game: Lost 17-13 to the Cardinals
Last week's ranking: 32
Forget about all the rookie passing records Sam Bradford had, the bigger story is how he connected with Mark Clayton for 10 passes and over 100 yards receiving after Clayton was barely with team a week.
Looks like Clayton has found a new home with the Rams' offense this season.
Next week: At Oakland Raiders
27. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
6 of 32
2010 Record: 1-0
Last game: Won 17-14 versus Browns
Last week's ranking: 31
Tampa moves up two spots because they were able to pull out a win against the Browns.
Not the best game in week one, but a win is in win.
The Bucs still have a long way to go to move any higher though.
Next week: At Carolina Panthers
26. Detroit Lions
7 of 32
2010 Record: 0-1
Last game: Lost 19-14 to the Bears
Last week's ranking: 26
The Lions competed with the Bears on Sunday, and a random NFL rule prevented them from starting the season undefeated.
There is still a lot to prove in Detroit if they really want to move up this list.
Next week: Home versus Philadelphia Eagles
25. Denver Broncos
8 of 32
2010 Record: 0-1
Last game: Lost 24-17 to the Jaguars
Last week's ranking: 20
Two turnovers (one fumble, one interception) by the Broncos against none by the Jaguars is always a tough way to win in the NFL.
Next game: Home versus Seattle Seahawks
24. Arizona Cardinals
9 of 32
2010 Record: 1-0
Last game: Won 17-13 versus the Rams
Last week's ranking: 21
Cardinals fall a few spots on this list due to the fact that they were barely able to escape beating the Rams.
Derek Anderson threw at Larry Fitzgerald 15 times in the game, but only connected with three.
If that doesn't change, then it will be a long season for the Cards.
Next game: At Atlanta Falcons
23. Chicago Bears
10 of 32
2010 Record: 0-1
Last game: Won 19-14 versus the Lions
Last week's ranking: 23
The Bears barely won against the Lions and if a certain NFL rule did not exist, then they would be winless.
A near win only moves them up one this week.
Next game: At Dallas Cowboys
22. Jacksonville Jaguars
11 of 32
2010 Record: 1-0
Last game: Won 24-17 over Broncos
Last week's ranking: 29
The Jags didn't have to rely on running back Maurice Jones-Drew as much as many thought they would have to and quarterback David Garrard tossed three touchdown passes against a Broncos defense that has some holes.
Next week: At San Diego Chargers
21. Kansas City Chiefs
12 of 32
2010 Record: 1-0
Last game: Won 21-14 versus the Chargers
Last week's ranking: 24
The Chiefs defense and 2010 rookie's stepped up their game and shocked division rival the Chargers on Monday Night Football.
Next game: At Cleveland Browns
20. Philadelphia Eagles
13 of 32
2010 Record: 0-1
Last game: Lost 27-20 to the Packers
Last week's ranking: 16
The Kevin Kolb concussion may be a big concern, but let's be honest in saying that Michael Vick gives the Eagles the best chance to win games and he looked like the Vick of old on Sunday.
Next game: At Detroit Lions
19. San Francisco 49ers
14 of 32
2010 Record: 0-1
Last game: Lost 31-6 versus Seahawks
Last week's ranking: 10
Mike Singletary and his Niners got smacked around be Pete Carroll and his new Seahawks team out of no where.
This past Sunday's defeat might have been the biggest surprise of all surprises this past weekend.
Next game: Home versus New Orleans Saints
18. Dallas Cowboys
15 of 32
2010 Record: 0-1
Last game: Lost 13-7 versus Redskins
Last week's ranking: 9
Dallas needs to get their three-headed running attack going otherwise they will continue to fall down this list.
Next week: Home versus Chicago Bears
17. Cincinnati Bengals
16 of 32
2010 Record: 0-1
Last game: Loss 38-24 against Patriots
Last week's ranking: 13
Terrell Owens and Chad Ochocinco had decent games in their first regular season game together, but the Pats were running on all cylinders and just too much for the Bengals' defense to contain in week one.
Next game: Home versus Baltimore Ravens
16. Miami Dolphins
17 of 32
2010 Record: 1-0
Last game: Win 15-10 over Bills
Last week's ranking: 14
The Dolphins sneaked past the Bills, but both their offense and defense need to show more to be able to maintain and/or regain ground on this list. in week two.
Next game: At Minnesota Vikings
15. Seattle Seahawks
18 of 32
2010 Record: 1-0
Last game: Win 31-6 over Niners
Last week's ranking: 28
The Seahawks easily shocked the NFL with a huge upset and blow out of the Niners.
Next game: At Denver Broncos
14. Washington Redskins
19 of 32
2010 Record: 1-0
Last game: Won 13-7 over Cowboys
Last week's ranking: 19
McNabb and his new team were able to shut down the Cowboys offense and increase the optimism around the Nation's capital.
Next game: Home versus Houston Texans
13. San Diego Chargers
20 of 32
2010 Record: 0-1
Last game: Lost 21-14 to the Chiefs
Last week's ranking: 6
Chargers got surprised by a motivated Chiefs team that overwhelmed them in the first half.
Next game: Home versus Jacksonville Jaguars
12. Atlanta Falcons
21 of 32
2010 Record: 0-1
Last game: Overtime loss 15-9 versus Steelers
Last week's ranking: 11
Atlanta maintains a higher ranking despite losing since they lost to a good Steelers team that couldn't win during regulation of the game and had to win in Overtime.
The Falcons can and will compete with many teams in 2010.
Next game: Home versus Arizona Cardinals
11. Minnesota Vikings
22 of 32
2010 Record: 0-1
Last game: Loss 14-9 to the Saints
Last week's ranking: 4
Bottom line is that the Vikings fall so far because their passing game looked terrible without injured wide receiver Sidney Rice.
Until they have a better passing game, opposing defenses will just tee off on running back Adrian Peterson.
Next game: Home versus Miami Dolphins
10. New York Jets
23 of 32
2010 Record: 0-1
Last game: Loss 10-9 versus Ravens
Last week's ranking: 7
The Jets offense looked terrible and the only reason they only lost by one point is due to their defense which looks to be running on all cylinders already.
Next game: Home versus New England Patriots
9. New York Giants
24 of 32
2010 Record: 1-0
Last game: Won 31-18 over Panthers
Last week's ranking: 15
Eli Manning found a new favorite target in Hakeem Nicks and they hooked up for three touchdowns in week one.
The Giants have a chance to make a move up ranking with a win especially if they can beat a tough week two opponent.
Next game: At Indianapolis Colts
8. Indianapolis Colts
25 of 32
2010 Record: 0-1
Last game: Lost 34-24 versus Texans
Last week's ranking: 2
The Colts do not fall out of the top 10 solely due to Peyton Manning being their quarterback.
They will come back after a week one loss even if Manning has to will them to win games.
Next game: Home versus New York Giants
7. Pittsburgh Steelers
26 of 32
2010 Record: 1-0
Last game: Win 15-9 over Falcons
Last week's ranking: 18
Dennis Dixon may be holding the fort down until Ben Roethlisberger comes back from suspension, but he really needs to buy running back Rashard Mendenhall a gift for winning the season opener game for him in overtime.
Next game: At Tennessee Titans
6. Tennessee Titans
27 of 32
2010 Record: 1-0
Last game: Won 38-13 over Raiders
Last week's ranking: 17
The Chris Johnson show appears set to play all season long.
Can he be the first running back ever to rush for over 2,000 yards in consecutive seasons?
Next game: Home versus Pittsburgh Steelers
5. Houston Texans
28 of 32
2010 Record: 1-0
Last game: Win 34-24 over the Colts
Last week's ranking: 12
The NFL is going crazy after a week one break out performance by Texans running back Arian Foster.
And by the way, he ran all of the Colts and the Texans are in first place in the AFC South, not the Colts.
Wow.
Next game: At Washington Redskins
4. Green Bay Packers
29 of 32
2010 Record: 1-0
Last game: Won 27-20 over the Eagles
Last week's ranking: 3
Aaron Rodgers wasn't at his best on Sunday and the Packers still won, but Vick didn't challenge the Packers' defense nearly single-handedly doing what Vick does best.
The Pack still won and only drop a spot to make room for a new top three.
Next game: Home versus Buffalo Bills
3. Baltimore Ravens
30 of 32
2010 Record: 1-0
Last game: Win 10-9 over the Jets
Last week's ranking: 5
Anquan Boldin showcased his talents and why he was worth the price to play, also the Ravens defense literally shut down the Jets' offense all game long and did not give up a touchdown.
Next week: At Cincinnati Bengals
2. New England Patriots
31 of 32
2010 Record: 1-0
Last game: Won 38-24 over the Bengals
Last week's ranking: 8
The Patriots' offense was firing and scoring like it was 2007 all over again.
A scary thought if their offense really does play at that high level as their undefeated season.
Next game: At New York Jets
1. New Orleans Saints
32 of 32
2010 Record: 1-0
Last game: Won 14-9 over the Vikings
