San Francisco 49ers: 10 Things I HATE About You
New year, same old sorry San Francisco 49ers.
On opening day, The San Francisco 49ers took a pounding reminiscent of a late night stroll through a park in the Castro.
Let's break down the 10 things (in no particular order) that continue to make the 49ers an average team at best.
Alex Smith Still Sucks
1 of 10
This game got away from the 49ers when Alex Smith, on a 4th and 1, overthrew his wide open receiver who was 7 yards away from him at most.
Throw in two interceptions that led to touchdowns and the game was over within five minutes of the third quarter.
Starting before the draft when the 49ers passed on trading for quarterbacks like Donovan McNabb and Ben Roethlisberger, the 49er faithful has vigilantly defended the quarterback who continues to choke at every chance.
GET IT THROUGH YOUR HEADS' - ALEX SMITH SUCKS!!!
Offensive Line Still Sucks
2 of 10
The 49ers spent two first round picks and a fourth round pick on the Offensive line in the 2010 draft.
Game 1:
No running room for Gore.
No time for Alex Smith.
Sounds a lot like last year.
Bob McKittrick R.I.P.
Can't Score in The Red Zone
3 of 10
First Three Trips into the Red Zone:
The 49ers started off the game with an INT on defense deep in Seahawks territory and couldn't convert. Field Goal
Alex Smith couldn't make a four yard pass. Turnover on Downs
With no remaining timeouts, San Francisco takes a delay of game on a 4th and Goal from the 1. Field Goal.
Poor Use Of Timeouts
4 of 10
Last year in the game against the Texans the 49ers used all their timeouts early in a half and when the refs made a terrible call on a non-fumble against the Niners on a punt return the 49ers couldn't challenge and get the obvious reversal.
The first play from scrimmage this year for the 49ers - Timeout.
When the 49ers need a timeout on a 4th and Goal with over nine minutes left in the half... there are none left. They take a five yard penalty and kick another field goal.
49ers Offense Not Ready to Play Again
5 of 10
The 49ers had a chance to come out and put up 21 straight points on Seattle and take total control of this game.
A better team would have a la the Patriots this morning versus The Bengals.
Sometimes you can win a game in the first quarter. The 49ers had that chance and couldn't do it.
It was evidence in the offense getting on the field after a huge interception to start the game and then having to call a timeout before the first play.
This is an amateur effort at best.
Mike Singletary Sucks
6 of 10
Even Mike Singletary's strength is a weakness. He's supposed to be a master motivator and his offense wasn't even ready to play.
HE's supposed to be a master motivator but the team quit after the Seahawks first score.
If your team isn't ready to play and your team quits the second it loses its lead the you aren't motivating anyone.
He wasn't yelling at anyone and he should have been going ballistic.
Offense Is No Threat
7 of 10
Under the direction of Mike Singletary the 49ers Offensive Coordinator refuses to call a play deeper than 20 yards down field.
Even down by 20 points the 49ers still dink and dunk the ball down the field.
They don't even try to go down field and it's not working.
The game has changed and the 49ers offense the past two years has been as inflexible as a dead baby.
Big Plays Still Destroy Defense
8 of 10
Why the 49ers refuse to address their needs at corner back is beyond any observer.
This is a passing league and succesful teams are at least three deep with corners.
The 49ers have two #2 corner backs and a bunch of practice squad players getting burned.
Michael Crabtree Still Not Worried
9 of 10
Ignorance is bliss and Michael Crabtree's immaturity is hurting the team.
Crabtree said repeatedly this week he wasn't worried about missing all the preseason games.
Then he turned in a performance where two balls thrown his way got intercepted. One bounced off his shoulder and one he ran the wrong route. Both ended in touchdowns that put the game away.
Good thing he's not worried about it though. Loser.
49ers Still Living In The Past
10 of 10
Mike Singletary is a throwback who plays the game the way it USED to be played.
When the 49ers had a dynasty they were the hardest working team in the NFL.
When the 49ers had a dynasty Bill Walsh didn't play the game the way everyone else played it, he was a pioneer who revolutionized the game.
The 49ers will never gain the same kind of success they had in the eighties until they find coaches who can think outside the box of the outside the boxers and players who want to work hard enough to be ready to play from the first snap.
