Packer Fans Booing Rodgers; Mothers Allowing Their Sons To Run Amok

Booing Aaron Rodgers at practice camp is akin to beating up your local convenience store clerk because you're paying a ton of money for gasoline.

Brett Favre fans come in all flavors and sizes, like the mother who allowed her child to wear a Favre jersey for several years. Most Favre fans I know are women who wouldn't know the difference between Jon Michaels and Chad Clifton at left tackle and believe Favre could do no wrong.

Since women make most of the purchasing decisions in the U.S. and the Packers rely on local revenue to stay viable, the female fan fascination for Favre has been fruitful for the Packer's bottom line.

As a Packer backer, I welcome the women who have bought all the Christmas, Birthday, anniversary and whatever Favre jerseys.

Favre fever generated millions of bucks for the Packers.

But now we have families allowing children, who probably believe a Cover 2 is Madden changing his cover from Favre in a Packer jersey to Favre in a Jet jersey, to shout out rude, idiotic crap against Rodgers at training camp.

Many of these fans don't realize the Packer schedule is a lot more difficult than it was last year and, even if Favre was still under center, the Packers would be hard pressed to repeat their 13-3 record of last year.

Many of these fans don't realize Al Harris, who plays hard press, man-to-man coverage, is a year older. The older you get, the harder to press and then play man-to-man. Pressing without then being required to play man-to-man is one thing: pressing and then playing man-to-man is entirely different.

Many of the these Favre fans don't understand Bart Starr won more championships for the Packers than Favre did.

Most of these fans are young and Favre is the only GB QB they have ever known. Other fans don't understand why Reggie White's record three sacks in the 1998 Superbowl won the game. If you want to talk about a tackle who consistently demonstrates bad footwork and a narrow stance, they go DOH.

These Favre fans don't want to give Rodgers a chance because they don't know any better. Few of them know who Majik is and don't understand how Favre got his job. Few believe Favre needs any teammates around him.

These Favre fans hated Randy Moss, but, then, when Favre wanted him, these Favre fans embraced Moss. They never questioned why, even though Favre and Moss have the same agent, Favre's agent couldn't deliver Moss to the Packers. If Favre was the greatest quarterback in the game, why couldn't Favre and Moss' agent deliver Moss to Green Bay?

Favre fans never pay attention to the players surrounding Favre or money or facts. They believe the Packers never gave Favre the good players and yet the Packers have been the winningest NFL franchise in the past 15 years.

Favre was probably a large part of the reason for that winning record. But why, in the only Superbowl Favre won, it was a specials team player (Desmond Howard) who was awarded the MVP for the game? Most folks voting for the SB MVP will pick the QB: that is the easy and popular choice. Instead, Howard was selected (and White could have been selected.) If you review the only SB Favre ever won, he wasn't even the third most valuable player.

Before you comment: I've seen every game, in real time, Favre ever played for the Packers, including preseason, except one. Every one, except one.

I count one of the greatest joys of my life watching Favre play Packer quarterback. But don't pretend to be a Packer fan if you are only a Favre fan. Just proclaim yourself a Favre fan and go forward. Just leave the Green Bay Packers to true Packer fans.
