Ndamukong Suh Hit On Jake Delhomme: NFL Investigates Head Shot (Video)

Daniel WolfAug 30, 2010

When the Cleveland Browns played the Detroit Lions, starting quarterback Jake Delhomme had no clue that he was going to take a head shot from the 2010 No. 2 overall NFL draft pick, Ndamukong Suh.

The hit pretty much went like this: Suh got to the Delhomme after he was flushed out of a collapsing pocket, but when Suh reached to bring him down, he grabbed Delhomme's face mask then wrapped both of his giant arms around the quarterback's head to bring him to the ground.

But after both of Delhomme's knees were on the ground, Suh continued to fling the quarterback to the ground like a rag doll.

Not a smart play for a highly-touted rookie.

There is no reason for such a tackle, and regardless of how fans may think the NFL pampers its quarterbacks, when a player goes for the head, it is nothing but a bad thing.

A personal foul on Suh for 10 yards (half the distance to the goal) was added to the Browns' drive, but it was apparent that Delhomme was a bit rattled by the hit because he was as fiery as any Browns quarterback has ever been since the 1980's.

He was able to calm down and maintain his composure and continue playing.

Does that make the hit okay?

Not at all, especially since the NFL is so anti-head injuries as of late. This is sure to make Suh's wallet a bit lighter.

The NFL is officially investigating this hit now according to the AP, which is great because no matter how violent the game of football is, there is never a reason to wrap both arms around another player's head.

Not to mention that Suh's biceps are almost bigger than Delhomme's head.

In the end, Suh will most likely see a fine, which the NFL will be as quick to hand down as they always are when it comes to personal fouls of this magnitude.

Suh needs to learn to attack at the shoulders and below, as much as Tim Tebow needs to learn to slide.
