Matt Hasselbeck's Wish: Housh, Williams, Jackson, and Carlson Same Team

lee springAug 27, 2010

There have been many points of view on Vincent Jackson, who as of lately has become a big deal to the fans of the Seattle Seahawks.

I believe that we all would welcome him with excitement to our struggling team, but we all are questioning our drafts and how it will affect us in the future. Here is my point of view on the situation and what may happen if Vincent Jackson was to become a Seahawk.

I received a comment on how we do not need Jackson because we have Williams.

My point of view is that receivers that have Jackson's talent are few and far between. Williams may be the man this year in preseason, but we have only seen him in the preseason and that is it in the past couple of years. Who knows how he will play when the defenses of other teams know the wins count, and this is not preseason any more. We will have to wait and see how Williams handles the competition.

We already know how Jackson plays when the games are for real. From what I have seen, if you can get a player that can make a difference in a game you better take a risk in grabbing that player.

Let's pretend this happens and Hasselbeck has Housh, Williams (hopefully he continues with his superb come back), and Jackson as receivers, with Carlson as a fourth option; sounds like a darn good receiving core to me.

Could you imagine the ease Hasselbeck would have at quarterback even if the offensive line falls apart again with four big tall receivers out there catching passes? The quarterback issue would be a thing of the past for another couple of years if all goes well. They could draft a quarterback of the future to be tutored by Hasselbeck before he finally retires.

My last article I wrote was about sacrificing a third and second round draft pick (2011 and 2012) for Jackson since the Chargers and him have fallen on such bad times with one another. This would be a great time to sacrifice some rounds without losing a first rounder for him. Losing drafts with rounds and things does not seem bad when it comes to good players as a sacrifice. Plus, the front office can negotiate with other teams, and it seems to be something Seattle has been doing alot of lately.

They lose a third rounder for Whitehurst, then a couple of months later we trade our Jackson and get it back our third round with Detroit. Who is to say we won't do this with another player before next year's draft? Then by 2012, who is to say we would not have a chance to get the second round draft we lost?

Let's face it: Our defense is not going to help us out much in games with good offenses. We can only hope that we can stop them here and there while our offense gets ahead on the scoreboard. Three elite receivers/one TE would help us stay in games where we would normally get blown out.

I hope that we have: Hasselbeck at QB; Washington and Forsett at RB; Housh, Williams, Jackson, Tate, and Butler as WR's; and Carlson, McCoy as our TE. Jackson would be a extra bonus to this team and especially a struggling Hasselbeck.

Next year we could focus on our defense pass rushing, and secondary, along with a hopeful QB of the future so we could be on top of the West again, and with Jackson along for the ride we would at least have a chance in 2010-11.
