The rumors keep on growing.
The reporters keep bashing each other.
Nobody seems to have an actual grasp on what's going on.
I'll preface this by telling you that I am not too sure either. But I have a little theory I can offer you combined with a little fact that leads me to believe Revis will be a Jet for a long time starting tonight.
Tim Cowlishaw. You all know him from Around the Horn. Or from the local newspaper if you live in Dallas. He is a reputable writer who knows a lot about football. Hard Knocks covered the Cowboys a couple years back. I'm sure Cowlishaw spent plently of time at training camp and met plenty of HBO execs/producers/etc.
Let's just assume for the sake of argument that he has some sources at HBO. And let's just assume for the sake of argument that the Revis signing announcement he keeps promising will happen is supposed to air on the show tonight.
As you know, Revis' camp and the team have signed some sort of truce or have come to some sort of agreement that they won't tell the media anything. That would leave all of the New York media outlets in a very bad position.
Can the Jets go all the way without Revis in the secondary?
Fortunately for Tim Cowlishaw, his source provided him with some information that nobody else would have.
How can New York reporters continue to discredit Cowlishaw's report when they can't get anything out of the team?
This makes the most sense of any explanation that I've heard since the controversial tweet. Other sources have reported that Revis will sign a 10-year contract for $150 million with $65 million guaranteed. So the Jets raised their offer and Revis lowered his asking price.
Let's get down to business and win a Super Bowl.
Or at least beat the Ravens...
