Tra Thomas Retires: Official Announcement to Come Tonight

Bryan BrackneyAug 21, 2010

Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune is reporting that San Diego Chargers offensive tackle Tra Thomas has retired. According to Acee, the Chargers will make an official announcement at tonight's preseason game.

Brandyn Dombrowski will start at left tackle until Marcus McNeill ends his holdout. Tyronne Green and Ryan Otterman are the backups behind Dombrowski. Green will not play tonight after he hurt his ankle in practice.

The Dallas Morning News is reporting that Thomas retired because his play was slipping.

"I was just watching film and I don't think I was playing as well in practice as I should be," said Thomas. "If I'm not playing well in practice, I'm not going to play up to my standard in a game ... I feel very good about the decision. I 'm going out on my own terms. At least, I know I gave it everything I could."
