It's Miller Time:Why The New Orleans Saints Need Billy Miller

Suzette Lampard BrantleyAug 5, 2010

Training camp is here and while perusing the camp roster something hit me...no #83.

What! No Billy Miller?

I know this off season saw a few shifts in the roster along with acquisition of rookie tight end, Jimmy Graham but Mr. Miller is a WhoDat thru and thru.

Yes he was on IR last year...so what?

He needs to be back with the black and gold.
Let me tell you why...

'Catch Dat Brees!'

1 of 6

Every so often in life something truly amazing happens and people want to capture it in time.

When Drew threw for his 5,000th yard pass, for only the 2nd time in NFL history, it was to #83, Billy Miller.

Immortalized by Warner Brothers, Bugs Bunny is Billy making the historic catch.

Both men have donated all proceeds from the artwork to charity.

Drew Brees and Billy Miller are more than just teammates, they are friends.
Matter of fact Drew has dedicated an entire page in his new book "Coming Back Stronger: Unleashing the Hidden Power of Adversity” to his best friend Billy.

When Drew’s mom passed away during training camp last year, Billy flew to Colorado to support his friend during such a difficult time.

World Chanmpion New Orleans Saints tight ends

As you can see Billy Miller will go down in Saints history (again) as part of their Super Bowl winning tight end corps.

What a shame it will be if he is not part of the roster this season. Recently his wife, Rachael Miller, stated "Billy is suppose to be part of TwoDat."

Currently Miller and his family are not under contract, but would love to be back in the Big Easy. For now the Miller's are back in sunny southern California.

Back to where Billy played high school ball before moving on to USC and where he chose to open "Elite Performance Factory" a state of the art training facility.

Elite Performance Factory staff and the Millers

Elite Performance Factory is not your run of the mill gym. It is a place to rehab an injury or to challenge yourself to even more.

From weights to pilates even hyperbaric therapy, they have it all.

Not a surprise that the Miller's have even set up scholarships for young aspiring athletes to attend.

As you can see they not only talk the talk, but walk the walk when it comes from giving back to their communities.

Maybe they can see fit to franchise and open Elite Performance Factory South in the greater New Orleans area.

Yet another USO Tour with Drew

4 of 6

...and they just keep on giving.
Drew Brees and Billy Miller have been on 3 overseas USO tours together.

It is so important to both men that we always show support to our "team" of soldiers as they too continue to finish strong.

Once again showing the bond of brotherhood.

If the man above decides that playing football has past Billy (which I'm not sure he has since no one has his Saints number) then maybe he'll see fit to be part of the Saints front office.

He would join two other former Saints players who have done the same after being such team and fan favorites.

Michael "beer man" Lewis is an Ambassador in the public relations department.

Former running back Fred McAfee is now the Director of Player Development and I'm sure could use a "few good men" in his department.

I'd say Billy fits the bill perfectly.

Rachael started "Geaux Sports Jewelry" for us ladies to show our Saintly side in a glamorous girly way.

Her "Go Fleur It" line even has pieces that support the Susan G. Komen Fund, Children's Cancer research and our troops overseas.

For each of these pieces purchased, she donates twenty percent to its cause.

What an All-American Family!

The Miller's embody the heart and soul of New Orleans, the Saints and their fans.

Keeping my fingers crossed for him (them) to be back in the Crescent City very soon.

How About Dat Ankle...

For those who are questioning how well his Achilles tear injury is doing...here's your answer.

The ankle looks mighty fine to me.

This picture was taken about a week ago. Sure it's not an NFL field, but if you have ever played a game with kids...especially your own, they show no mercy.

He is ready and waiting for a call, I hope it's from the Saints and not the Broncos!
