Trade Deadline Update:

Manny Ramirez is going to be a Marlin!  The deal was all gift wrapped, the bow was about to be put on it.  And the Florida Marlins Balked.  This is the same Marlins team that is in 3rd place by only a few games.   The same Marlins team that would be bringing in the best hitter in the history of their team.

The Proposed Manny to the Marlins deal was:

Marlins get Manny Ramirez, one prospect (BOS), and cash (Manny's salary, but Marlins demand more than that)

Pirates get Jeremy Hermidaand three prospects (two FL, one BOS)

Red Sox get Jason Bay and John Grabow

The Marlins asked for too much.  The Red Sox were happy with the deal, because they would be getting a reliever and Jason Bay, a starting outfielder who could at least not leave them empty in the outfield.  Florida wanted more money than what Manny would be making.  They actually wanted to make money off of this deal.  They also asked for too many prospects.  The fact that they would be getting a Hall of Fame outfielder was not good enough.  Now they have totally missed out.

Jason Bay has officially been dealt to the Red Sox as the Dodgers were more willing to take the gift.  The Dodgers basically stepped in for the Marlins.  The Pirates ended up getting a third base prospect, and possibily up to three total prospects.  The Red Sox got the bat they wanted in the outfield, and the Dodgers got a free bat for the year that comes with alot of attitude.  Florida will be able to watch what they missed out on for the rest of the season.

The Marlins pushed it too far, showing everyone why they are the cheapest team in baseball!  By asking for too much money in return and not accepting a free player, they blew their shot at a playoff run.  In no way does this mean that the Marlins are bad because they do not spend money, but it sure does mean that they won't make a deal to make their team better.  It's tough to be a fan of a team like that.

Now Manny will be Manny in LA, and Joe Torre will get to deal with him.
