New Orleans Saints: Let the March Begin

Suzette Lampard BrantleyJul 30, 2010

Here we GEAUX!

Usually at this time of the year, we are dissecting where we went wrong or which play was the big play that lead to our downfall. Not this time.

For the first time ever, the New Orleans Saints are entering training camp as the defending Super Bowl Champs. How cool is that?

Thousands of fans braved the asphyxiating New Orleans heat and humidity to welcome their champions back to their grueling training camp on Friday morning. True to form, the Saints organization showed the love right back with the Lombardi Trophy.

Being able to see that exquisite sterling silver Tiffany & Company designed embodiment of perfection made it worth the wait.

However, the team has put last year behind them and are ready to get to work. Well, maybe not all parts of last seasonthe one holdout being it's a team mentality.

In Coach Sean Payton's first interview from Saints camp this year he let the media know that the guys are anxious to get this season started. All players reported at the same time, as there was no delineation between report time of veterans and rookies.

On Thursday evening, the lone unsigned rookie, first round pick Patrick Robinson, inked his deal. Another first happened as well, as noted by Mickey Loomis, general manager of the Saints, when all players were on the field with no holdouts for the first practice of training camp.

On his first play as a Saint, Robinson showed his pass defense specialty by batting down the ball. While wide receivers Marques Colston and Robert Meachem are still nursing off season injuries, they did participate in drills during the morning practice.

Due to the heat, which is expected to reach triple digits this afternoon and all weekend, today and tomorrow's afternoon practices have been moved indoors and are therefore not open to the public.

However, you can catch the boys in black and gold again Saturday morning at 8:30-11:00am and Sunday at 3:20-5:45pm.

Here's to this year's New Orleans Saints and staff.

Thank you for passing on Albert Haynesworth.

Geaux get 'em boys!
