New York Yankees Trade Rumors: The Search Continues for a RH Outfielder

Lots of names have been thrown out this month that the Yankees have supposedly had some level of interest in, but through it all, the Yankees have been looking for a right-handed hitting outfielder.

Joel Sherman of the NY Post has a pretty good rundown of how their deadline search has gone:

• The Yankees' “ideal situation” includes picking up a right-handed hitting outfielder that can also play third base.
• The Yankees have called the Padres about IF/OF Jerry Hairston Jr. , whom they acquired at the deadline a year ago.
• They’ve also called the Marlins about OF Cody Ross , but Chris Coghlan 's injury has complicated things there.
• They have also called Toronto about Jose Bautista , who has played all three outfield positions and first and third base this season.
• Ryan Theriot is available, but the Yankees don’t like that he doesn’t have experience at third base or the outfield.
• There has been some interest in the Royals’ Willie Bloomquist .
• There is some thought that Reed Johnson , whom the Yankees chose Randy Winn over, could be available in August once he returns from the DL.
• The A’s are not interested in dealing Coco Crisp .
• Sherman also speculates that the Yankees could eventually turn their attention toward Andruw Jones of the White Sox. Sherman’s reason for this is that Brian Cashman and the White Sox have a strong working relationship, Jones hits lefties, and they have shown interest in him in the past.

If the Yankees don’t make a deal between now and 25 hours from now when the deadline hits, it won’t be for a lack of trying. It just seems that right now there are too many teams still in the playoff race and not enough teams that are looking to dump payroll.
