Harvey Unga Could Go In Round Three

Bryan BrackneyJul 14, 2010
Michael Lombardi of NFL Network is reporting BYU running back Harvey Unga could be picked in the third round of the supplemental draft. The Rams, Buccaneers, and Dolphins are rumored to have the most interest in Unga.

Here is how he would work on those three teams....

St. Louis Rams: Were the Rams to draft Unga, he would compete right away with Chris Ogbonnaya and Kenneth Darby to back up Steven Jackson. It is also worth mentioning that Steven Jackson has a lot of wear on his body.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers: The Buccaneers drafting Unga would allow them to use Earnest Graham more at fullback. Unga could be the Buccaneers running back of the future, with Carnell Williams and Derrick Ward getting up in age.

Miami Dolphins: The Dolphins are having a competition between Patrick Cobbs, Kory Sheets, and Lex Hilliard. Adding Unga would make their decision easy. Unga is a powerful runner in the mold of a typical Bill Parcells runner.

The Chiefs, Bears, Eagles, Saints, Seahawks, Packers, Colts, Lions, Falcons, Patriots, Giants, Bengals, Browns and Steelers have also displayed interest. 3 other unnamed teams are also interested.

The Panthers, Titans, 49ers, Vikings and Texans were not interested. That leaves 10 teams, three of those teams are interested.
  • Bills - Could need a third running back if they are planning on getting rid of Marshawn Lynch.
  • Jets - I can't see the Jets showing interest. They are probably going to carry two fullbacks already.
  • Ravens - The Ravens are looking for a third running back, but I don't think they would use a third round pick on a running back.
  • Jaguars - The Jaguars could be a match. They have been looking for a replacement for Fred Taylor since he left.
  • Raiders - I think this could be a match. He could play fullback in Oakland.
  • Chargers - Possibility, but the Chargers carry two fullbacks.
  • Broncos - Maybe, but that's a big maybe.
  • Redskins - No way
  • Cowboys - No way
  • Cardinals - I'd say no. The Cardinals are looking for a shifty back.
