7-11-10 Z-Cap: Johan Santana Chops Braves!!!

For most of the Mets the All-Star break couldn’t arrive soon enough.  Coming into Sunday afternoon’s finale against the Braves at Citi Field the team had lost 5 of 6 and fallen 5 games back of Atlanta in the NL East.  Starters R.A. Dickey and Mike Pelfrey have sputtered a bit and the offense had managed only 2 runs in the last 26 innings.

The only players seemingly not looking for a break in the action were Sunday’s heroes, Johan Santana and Angel Pagan .  The Mets, behind another stellar Santana effort (7 shutout innings) salvaged the series finale with a 3-0 victory.  Johan has now given up only 1 earned run in his last 23 IP (0.39 ERA) and grabbed his 7th win of the year on Sunday.

Angel Pagan (3-5, R) led a New York hit parade the saw the team scatter 13 hits off 4 Atlanta pitchers.  Over his last 7games Angel is now 15-31 (.484 avg) with 2 HR, 4 RBI and  4 SB and the talk of platooning him with Francouer when Beltran comes back needs to stop, NOW.  Ike Davis (2-3) also managed to connect on his 11th home run of the year...TO READ THE REST OF THIS POST AND OTHERS LIKE IT HEAD TO METSZILLA.COM BY CLICKING HERE:
