After 14 straight scoreless innings the Mets offense responded with a blow out victory over the Detriot Tigers, scoring a season high 14 runs. The win gave the Mets their 25th victory at home (25-10) and improved their record to 40-30 on the season, moving them to within 1 1/2 games of the NL East leading Atlanta Braves.  The 14-6 drumming of Detroit was highlighted by a season high 8-run 3rd inning that saw 14 batters come to the plate.  Angel Pagan had 4 hits with 4 RBI (falling just a home-run shy of the cycle) while David Wright was 3-3 with 2 RBI of his own. Pagan, who is now the lone Met regular to adorn a batting average of .300 (.304 to be exact) admitted that he was inspired by all the Beltran talk prior to the game when he said this:

Right now I have a role and my role is cover Carlos spot and I always say those are some big shoes to fill. I was really looking forward to do this to help the team as much as I can, what can I say this is a great opportunity. I can’t be more thrilled and I am just trying to enjoy the ride and I’m having fun”
