The Mets extended their winning streak to 8 games tonight (7 straight on the road) with a 4-0 victory over the cross town rival Yankees. In his rematch against Javier Vazquez, Hisanori Takahashi was once again brilliant, out dueling his counterpart and picking up his 6th win of the season by throwing 6 scoreless frames. In his last two starts against the Yankees Hisanori has now thrown 12 straight scoreless innings with 8 K. The win marked the first time the Mets have won 3 games in a row vs. the Bronx Bombers since 2008.
Takahashi cruised through the first five innings of tonights contest allowing only 3 base runners (2H, 1BB), none of which would reach second base. In the bottom of the 6th inning, clinging to a 1-0 lead, he allowed back to back singles to Nick Swisher and Mark Tiexera. After walking the hot hitting Robinson Cano to load the bases, Takahashi got Jorge Posada to hit a high chopper towards third base. David Wright, in spectacular fashion, made a bare-handed play to throw the slow footed Posada out at first and end the threat.
