The Yankees scored first in the bottom of the second. Robinson Cano hit a one out single to score Alex Rodriguez from third, giving the Yanks a 1-0 lead.

The Twins would not get anything until the top of the sixth. Denard Span singled on a ground ball to Cano at second base. Because of an error on Jason Giambi, Carlos Gomez came around to score and tie the game at one.

Span would later score in the inning on a fielder's choice hit by Jason Kubel, giving the Twins a 2-1 lead at the end of five and a half innings of play.

However, the Yankees would strike back in the bottom of the sixth. With Johnny Damon on first base, Bobby Abreu blasted a long home run into the right field seats, giving the Yankees a 3-2 lead.

The Yankees added another run in the sixth with another RBI single from Cano to score Rodriguez again, and the Yankees led 4-2 after six.

In the bottom of the seventh, New York padded their lead scoring four more runs. On the strength of a Derek Jeter double, Damon and Brett Gardner scored. Abreu followed with a double of his own to score Jeter, and give the Yankees a 7-2 lead.

The Bombers added one more run with an RBI single from Giambi to score Abreu, making the score 8-2.

With the 8-2 lead in the top of the ninth, Dan Giese got Nick Punto to ground out to Cano to end the game and give the Bronx Bombers a win.

David Robertson, who tossed only one pitch in the game, picked up the win and is now 2-0 on the year.

Slowey took the loss and falls to 6-7.

Jose Veras of the Yanks recorded a hold.

Tomorrow afternoon at 1:05 ET, the Yankees look for another sweep while the Twins look to avoid a sweep.

Mike Mussina (12-6, 3.49 ERA) will go up against Glen Perkins (7-2, 3.84 ERA).
