This Week's Sports Thoughts: July 14-20, 2008

Here are some thoughts to clear my mind for the upcoming week.

Do you think Terry Francona and Clint Hurdle are still receiving phone calls from other MLB Managers and GMs?  That could have been some of the best managing I have seen in a long, long time in the Majors!

The Boston Celtics' championship team took a hit this past week, as James Posey signed a four-year deal with the Hornets worth $25 Million.  In related news, there are odds in Vegas that say James Posey will win another championship with yet another team.  Odds are in Posey's favor!

The New England Patriots start camp tomorrow, and for some reason I can't get into them.  Maybe it was because of the big loss last year, or maybe because I don't know if that is what is going to drive to players to go for another championship season. 

On a side note, in 1986 Jimmy Johnson led the Miami Hurricanes to and undefeated season, just to lose the championship game to Penn State.  The following season, Johnson used that loss as motivation for his players to get back to the championship game and win. 

The 1987 the Miami Hurricanes went undefeated and won the National Championship, defeating the Oklahoma Sooners.  I know it is college, but there is hope!

It looks as though being married to Chris Everett has helped Greg Norman's golf game.  Good run this past week at the British Open, Mr. Norman.

Will someone please tell David Ortiz that after his first home run in his rehab assignment in Pawtucket, he should have gotten into a car and started driving back to Fenway.  The Sox need you, man!

Mr. Chiarelli, I see that Glen Murray is still on the Bruins Roster? 

Brett Favre had no problem receiving all those BIG checks the Packers were giving him over the years.  You think he would have read the whole contract.  Especially the small print that says, "We own you!"  I wouldn't release him either.

Phew, that is all I got.  Now I have room for this week's sports!
