Fantasy Trader's Football Roundtable: 2010 Offensive ROY
This weekโs topic:
Who will be the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year?
My response:
Whileย last weekโsย answer for most improved offense following the draft was subtle, this weekโs response is anything but.

The position that makes the easiest transition to the next level has historically been the running back position. Aside from picking up complex blitz packages, the jump to the NFL is pretty seamless. Granted you have to be bigger, stronger, and faster, but if you didnโt have those attributes you wouldnโt get the opportunity anyway.
Of the rookie RBs, nobody has a more favorable situation than Ryan Matthews. The Chargers jumped up in the draft to get him, and he will basically be handed the keys (barring an injury or contract dispute) as the feature tailback.
Heโs not going to a losing team like C.J. Spiller (Buffalo) or Jahvid Best (Detroit) where his team will be playing from behind frequently limiting the running game. They also have a high-powered passing game that will keep Matthews from facing eight men in the box. He figures to be the main carrier in the red zone. Everything adds up to an impressive debut. One that should net him the Offensive Rookie of the Year Award.
