2010 NFL Draft Grades: Reviewing Every Pick of The First Round
1. St. Louis Rams- Sam Bradford, QB, Oklahoma.
I like Bradford, I honestly do. I think he is going to be a successful player in the NFL. What i don't like is the situation that the Rams have put him in.Ā
St. Louis doesn't have enough weapons or a strong enough offensive line to protect Bradford. I think they should have waited until next year to select a quarterback, and picked up weapons for him during this draft.

2025 Draft Picks Ready For Leap šø
Draft Grade: B
2. Detroit Lions- Ndamukong Suh, DT, Nebraska.
I love this pick. Suh is going to be an imediant impact on this defense that has already improved during free agency.
Head Coach Jim Schwartz was the defensive coordinator for the Tennessee Titans when Albert Haynesworth was around, so he knows exactly what to do with guys like this.
Draft Grade: A+
3. Tampa Bay- Gerald McCoy, DT, Oklahoma.
McCoy was the best player available, who also fits perfectly for the Buccaneers. He should remind coaches and fans of former star Warren Sapp.
McCoy can do anything you want a defensive tackle to do, and should not disappoint.Ā
Draft Grade: A
4. Washington Redskins- Trent Williams, OT, Oklahoma.
Washington needed an offensive tackle to protect newly acquired quarterback Donovan McNabb.Ā
Russell Okung was the better prospect at offensive tackle, but Williams fits best with Washington's blocking scheme.Ā
Draft Grade: A
5. Kansas City- Eric Berry, S, Tennessee.Ā
I love this pick for the Chiefs. An offensive linemen would have been nice, but Berry will be dominant on a defense that needs a lot of help.
Berry automatically comes in as a leader on this defense. Every area of Kansas City's defense needs help and drafting the best defensive back is a great way to start improving.
Draft Grade: A+
6. Seattle- Russell Okung, OT, Oklahoma State.
Seattle got lucky here by having the best offensive line in the draft fall to them.
Okung struggles a bit with grabbing instead of punching while blocking, but former USC head coach Pete Carroll will work with him, and will do a fine job replacing Walter Jones.
Draft Grade: A
7. Cleveland- Joe Haden, CB, Florida.
Haden comes into a Cleveland organization that needs a lot of help. As a die-hard Carolina Panthers fan, quaterback Jake Delhomme will not do anything but hurt this team.
Joe Haden will improve this defense, pairing with Eric Wright and Sheldon Brown to make a strong defensive backs core. He stumbled a bit during his combine, but was still drafted in the top ten.
Safe pick here.
Draft Grade: B+
8. Oakland- Rolando McClain, LB, Alabama.
Finally, Al David selects a safe prospect.Ā
We all heard the boo's, as the Giants really wanted him to be their pick. He will team with Kirk Morrison and Thomas Howard to make a strong linebacker core.
Draft Grade: B+
9. Buffalo- CJ Spiller, RB, Clemson.
I'm left scratching my head here. I love Spiller as a player, I think he is going to be a top ten running back in a couple years.
But Buffalo? Marshawn Lynch must be about to be traded, or else he won't get many carries.Ā
Spiller is a lot like Chris Johnson. He can do a little bit of everything including running, receving and kick returns.Ā
Although, the Bills did have to make a big move because of all the moves the AFC East have made, and it only took them a minute to decide who they wanted.
Draft Grade: B+
10. Jacksonville- Tyson Alualu, DT, California.
Well, so much for selling jerseys by selecting a big name.
Alualu is a great player without a big name. We heard a lot of boo's, but don't give up on this guy so quick.
Check his film, he plays at a high level and will help make this Jacksonville defense dominant once again. Although, he was a bit of a reach as they probably could have traded down and still got him.
Draft Grade: B-
11. San Francisco(From Denver)- Anthony Davis, OT, Rutgers.
Davis is a physically gifted offensive tackle out of Rutgers. His 6'6, 310 pound frame will start opposite side Joe Staley to protect quarterback Alex Smith.
Draft Grade: B
12. San Diego(From Miami)- Ryan Matthews, RB, Fresno St.
A talented running back here, but trading a second-and-fourth round pick to move down 16 slots for him was a bit too much for him.
He's very skilled, playing a lot like former Charger Ladainian Tomlinson, although he has struggled to stay healthy for a whole season during his college career.Ā
Draft Grade: B-
13. Philadelphia(From Denver)- Brandon Graham, DE/OLB, Michigan.
Graham is an excellant player, and the Eagles new it by sending two third-round picks along with their first round pick to the Broncos for him.
Andy Reid loves pass rushers and Graham does that very well. He dominated at the Senior Bowl and looks to contribute that into the pro game too.Ā
Draft Grade: A
14. Seattle- Earl Thomas, S, Texas.
Seattle has done a great job with their two first round picks, grabbing what some would say are the top players at their respected position.
Seattle is happy Thomas fell down to number 14, as some thought he would be a top ten pick.
His coverage and ballhawking skills should make him a starter in the NFL for years to come.
Draft Grade: A+
15. New York Giants- Jason Pierre-Paul, DE, South Florida.
A raw, talented and athletic defensive end known for his backflips. He's a freak athlete and if he plays the way he did his senior year, this will be a big steal.
Look for unhappy defensive end Osi Umenyiora to be traded with this selection.Ā
Draft Grade: B-
16. Tennessee- Derrick Morgan, DE, Georgia Tech.
The ACC-Defensive player of the year, Morgan is the safest defensive end in this draft.Ā He is a gifted athlete that is strong against the run. He also has good pass-rush skills, having 12.5 sacks during 2009.
The Titans need defensive line help, and Morgan comes in ready to play on this once-dominant defense.Ā
Draft Grade: A
17. San Francisco- Mike Iupati, Idaho.
San Francisco selects another offensive linemen that will come in and start right away. His 6'5, 329 frame will provide another big body to protect former first overall pick Alex Smith.
A bit of a reach here, as they also could have filled other holes. But with this selection, the 49ers could have the best offensive line in the league after a couple of years.
Draft Grade: B
18- Pittsburgh- Maurkice Pouncey, OL, Florida.Ā
The Steelers needed help on their offensive line that sturggled throughout the whole season in 2009.
Pouncey comes in with the ability to start at center or guard. He will come in day one ready to play, having a successful career for many years.
I love this pick.
Draft Grade: A
19. Atlanta- Sean Weatherspoon, OLB, Missouri.Ā
Weatherspoon doesn't have a big name, but he is a heck of a player. He does a little bit of everything, and should be a great linebacker opposite side aging Mike Peterson.
With the addition of Dunta Robinson and linebackers Curtis Lofton and Mike Peterson on board, this defense will become dominant.
Draft Grade: B+
20. Houston- Kareem Jackson, CB, Alabama.
I like the pick, but they should have gone with Kyle Wilson. They are two different type of corners, but in the end I feel like Wilson would have been the better pick.
With the loss of Dunta Robinson, Jackson becomes the number one guy for this struggling defensive backs core.Ā
Draft Grade: C
21. Cincinnati- Jermaine Gresham, TE, Oklahoma.
An explosive-pass catching tight end that is perfect for the Bengals.
With all the weapons Carson Palmer has had during his career, he has never had a elite tight end. Gresham has Pro Bowl potential, and could become one of the top tight ends in the league.
Draft Grade: B+
22. Denver (From New England)- Demaryius Thomas, WR, Georgia Tech.
Thomas over Bryant-we new this would be surprising draft. Thomas does have upside, don't get me wrong. But I think he is a bit overrated with being compared to former Yellow Jacket Calvin Johnson.
Although, Thomas is an explosive receiver. He has nice size at 6'3 with good speed and hands. He will replace Brandon Marshall, who was traded to Miami for two second rounders.
Draft Grade: B-
23. Green Bay- Bryan Bulaga, OT, Iowa.
I love this pick for Green Bay. They fill their biggest hole on the offensive line at number 23 with a guy expected to be a top-15 pick.
Bulaga will come in and start from day one. He's an extremely talented offensive linemen who will be a very solid addition for this Packers offense line that was terrible last season.
Draft Grade: A+
24. Dallas(From New England)- Dez Bryant, WR, Oklahoma State.
Wow, i'm in complete shock right now. I love what the Cowboys did by trading up to select the receiver from Oklahoma State.Ā
Owner Jerry Jones new this team had to make some sort of splash, and even though Bryant has been a bit of a diva the past month, he will have a great career with Dallas.
Their receivers core look great right now, including Miles Austin, Roy Williams, Patrick Crayton and now Dez Bryant.Ā
This is a great story, as former Oklahoma State Cowboy Dez Bryant, now a Dallas Cowboy, is in complete tears along with his family, as they are very excited to be selected by their home-town team.Ā
Congratulations Dez Bryant.
Draft Grade: A+
25. Denver( From Baltimore)- Tim Tebow, QB, Florida.
Interesting pick here. I love Tim Tebow, and I am very high on him, he is one of my role models.
But to the Broncos--why?
Denver already have Kyle Orton and Brady Quinn who they acquired this offseason, and now they're adding Tebow to the mix? They sent a second, third and fourth round pick to Baltimore to select him, so they must have some plan to use him.
Nor Orton or Quinn look to be the future of the Broncos franchise, so head coach Josh McDaniels could be looking to work with him and be mentored by these veterans so he can one day be the starter.Ā
Look for Denver to use him in the wildcat until he is ready to be the starting quarterback.Ā
Big project and risk here. This is definitely the boom-or-bust pick of the draft.
Draft Grade: B
26. Arizona- Dan Williams, DT, Tennessee.Ā
With a big need at linebacker and cornerback, the Arizona Cardinals decided to go with the top guy left on the board.
Williams will pair with Darnell Dockett and create a dangerous defensive line.
I like Williams, but linebacker Sergio Kindle or cornerback Kyle Wilson should have been the pick here.
Draft Grade: C+Ā
27. New England- Devin McCourty, CB, Rutgers.
After trading down twice, New England finally decided to go with the quick, tight corner who is also the best special teams player in the draft.Ā
McCourty will add depth to New England's weakest position on their roster, and will also compete for a starting job alongside Leigh Bodden.Ā
I'm left wondering why they chose a different cornerback over Kyle Wilson, but hard to argue here.Ā
Draft Grade: B-
28. Miami- Jared Odrick, DT, Penn State.
Miami traded down from the number 12 spot and still added a very talented player in this draft. Odrick will start out as a rotation player, playing at any position on the line.Ā
A great pick here, as Miami was also to grab the 6'5 defensive linemen while also picking up more picks. Ā
Draft Grade: B+
29. New York Jets- Kyle Wilson, CB, Boise State.
Man, could the New York Jets have a better offseason?Ā
They already have the best cornerback in the league in Derrelle Revis, they acquired former Pro-Bowl cornerback Antonio Cromartie and now draft Kyle Wilson out of Boise State.Ā
The Jets got themselve a special player here at number 29, drafting a guy projected to go in the top-15.
Just a couple of days after signing Jason Taylor, this team just gets better and better every day.Ā
Draft Grade: A
30. Detroit( From Minnesota)- Jahvid Best, RB, California.
I had a feeling Minnesota wouldn't keep this pick, as the Lions traded up to select the quick running back out of California.Ā
I just got done saying the Lions only missing piece is an offensive line and running back. They took care of their running back need, as Best and Kevin Smith will pair to make a dangerous two-headed monster.Ā
He's a little guy who's fast and makes quick cuts. He's got great hands, being able to make the catch running out of the snap.
Look out for the Detroit Lions this year. They have had an extremely well offseason.Ā
Draft Grade: A
31. Indianapolis Colts- Jerry Hughes, OLB, TCU.
I love this pick for the Colts.
Hughes, in my opinion, is the most underrated player in this draft. Indianapolis is the perfect fit for the aggressive, high motor linebacker out of TCU.
The Colts have failed to have dominant linebackers on the outside for many years, so again, draft a talented here in the late first round.
Draft Grade: B+
32. New Orleans Saints- Patrick Robinson, CB, Florida State.
I like this pick for the Saints who go cornerback in the first round for a second-consecutive year.
New Orleans has struggled with their defensive backs for many years. They've had guys come in and out and till have the same results.Ā
Hopefully Robinson can help fix that problem.
Draft Grade: B
