Say What Now? Denver Broncos First Round

Ladies and gentlemen, Tim Tebow is officially a Denver Bronco. After acquiring the Ravens' 25th overall pick via trade, they selected the Heisman winner.

It's a blockbuster move for the franchise and easily the biggest story of the draft so far. This, however, was not the only movement by Pat Bowlen and Co.

A number of trade-downs gave the Broncos the 22nd pick, which they used on Demaryius Thomas.

Even this astonished some people, with Dez Bryant being passed up. The power level shift in the receiving sector shifted. Thomas will have the distinction of being the first receiver selected this year.

Then the big move caught everyone by surprise. The Tebow move.

It will easily be the most talked about piece of football news for the next 24 hours. After all the speculation and rumor-mongering, the decision has been made. So what does this mean?

The Broncos are looking to the future.

Josh McDaniels intends on being around for a while.

And a few years from now, it's very likely that Tebow will be an NFL starter.

McDaniels has proven himself an extremely capable quarterback coach, having turned Matt Cassel into an ample replacement for Pro Bowler Tom Brady. He is certainly qualified to turn Tebow into an NFL-caliber player.

Broncos fans were kept on the edge of their seats during the first round. Shifting from 11th to 13th, then to 24 and finally to 22nd proved a roller coaster. Then the nabbing of the 25th overall selection became a sudden guessing game.

Mock drafts were thrown right out the window and sportscasters pulled out their hair. McDaniels had thrown them all off their edge.

Plenty of flak will surround the decision, but it will be impossible to judge for a few years, at least until Tebow has seen time under center.

Excitement is in the air for the Denver Broncos. They've brought it a real personality and a true leader. It could pay off.

It could blow up right in their faces.

Either way, it's brought attention to the franchise.

And judging by the number of Broncos picks off the board for them now, this was the plan all along. This was not subterfuge. The organization was going to gun for the Florida quarterback. And they secured him.

The smoke has cleared.
