2010 NFL Draft: Kansas City Chiefs Reportedly Taking Calls for No. 5 Pick

Daniel WolfApr 19, 2010

According to Mike Lombardi of National Football Post, the Kansas City Chiefs are actively taking phone calls to all other possible trade partners in order to trade down in the first round.

When any team is in the top five, as the Chiefs are currently, teams will do everything in their power to trade down to not only save move, but acquire more picks in the draft as well.

Lombardi reports that the Chiefs are active on the phone lines, since they are convinced they can find value in the second round at offensive tackle.

Currently, projected to take an offensive tackle with the No. 5 overall pick in many mocks across the Internet, if the Chiefs cannot find a trade partner then there options are many.

They can still use the No. 5 overall pick on an offensive tackle anyway, like Iowa's Bryan Bulaga or Oklahoma's Trent Williams, but they can also add a defensive playmaker since Tennessee safety Eric Berry should still be sitting on the board and readily available.

Obviously, the Chiefs will try and use Berry as the selling point to a willing trade partner, but moving up in the first round of the draft is never a cheap thing to do, since it will cost another team many draft picks and/or players on their roster too.

But the Chiefs may also want Berry for themselves, which gives them an impact player on defense and they can still pick an offensive lineman they are eyeing up in the second round too.

If what is being reported by Lombardi is true, then any of these scenarios sound like a win-win for the Chiefs.
