2010 NFL Draft: Are the Browns Even Interested in Dan LeFevour Or Other QBs?
The Cleveland Browns are in a position to be crowned the most talked about and speculated franchise of the 2010 NFL offseason due to one reason and one reason alone.
Their quarterback situation.
As Browns fans are well aware, the quarterback position has been a revolving door of players both young and old. But now with the addition of the "quarterback guru" in President Mike Holmgren, this offseason should be the last time there are any questions at this position (in theory).
So far there has been more talk about quarterbacks Sam Bradford, Colt McCoy, and Tim Tebow, but there are still a few other quarterbacks in this class who could also excel in running the Browns' new West Coast-hybrid style of offense.
One specific name that has not received a single bit of notoriety from the Browns brass is four-year starter and Central Michigan Chippewa, Dan LeFevour.
LeFevour has very good size to play quarterback at the NFL level standing at 6'3" and 230 pounds.
A very mobile quarterback, LeFevour has impressive speed. At the NFL Combine he ran the second fastest 40-yard dash time for quarterbacks with a 4.66. Do not put too much into his speed, because a quarterback's arm and mind are their most important attributes.
Not to say that having quick feet is not a plus in a West Coast offense, because remember that Holmgren did teach and mentor Steve Young who was a very mobile quarterback with the 49ers.
LeFevour's arm strength has been questioned on deeper passes, as has McCoy's, but the best thing about running a West Coast-style of offense is that a quarterback needs to have solid arm strength and accuracy for short and intermediate passes, which both LeFevour and McCoy possess.
Why is there no talk of LeFevour before the 2010 NFL Draft?
One possible thought is to talk about these other quarterbacks like Bradford, McCoy, and Tebow to throw off all the other teams, and hide the Browns' real intentions as to who they really like.
Another reason may be because they just do not like him as a fit in their new hybrid offense.
So what is the answer to this question?
Obviously the answer is wait until the draft on April 22-24 to find out, but it also sounds like a front office who is calculating their every move in order to keep other teams unaware, off balance, and hope that hype does not increase for the quarterback they really want.
Is LeFevour is the Browns' plans?
Let's not rule it out just yet because anything is possible with the NFL Draft, but no one knows at this point. Even the Browns may still be evaluating their options right now.
Other quarterback names who could also be in the mix, and whose names have not been talked about in the media by the Browns' front office include: Mike Kafka, Jarrett Brown, John Skelton, and Levi Brown, to name a few.
One of these other names may be the future for the Browns come draft day.
LeFevour's college stats: Passing: 12,905 yards, 66 percent completion rate, 102 touchdowns, 36 interceptions.
Rushing: 2,939 yards, 47 touchdowns.
