My New Favorite Athlete-Matt Jones. Finally a White Guy...

The events that happened in Fayetteville, Arkansas earlier this morning involved a new hero.

Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Matt Jones faces a felony drug charge in his former college town after police found him cutting up cocaine with a credit card.

Finally, a white stud athlete gets busted for drugs. I'm so sick of just hearing about black athletes who get caught. Sure, black athletes get involved in more illegal activities (allegedly), but still it makes my day when a white guy gets caught.

As a fellow white athlete, I get excited because Jones’ actions today will gain me respect in Magnolia Projects in New Orleans. I also must applaud ESPN for reporting the news so black sports fans don't cry about the news never reporting on how white athletes get in trouble... unless you're talking about steroids.

I've been a Matt Jones' fan long before he was catching passes at the Jaguars. This might shock you, but all three of the Jags' quarterbacks are black. Some teams haven't had one in the history of their team.

Jones was great was a white QB playing for Arkansas as a both a passer and runner. He also was a solid athlete on the hardwood as well. He was drafted by the Jaguars as a WR because of his 4.3 40 time. That is unheard from a 6'4"  blonde white guy.

The 25 year-old -- and two other former Arkansas football players -- were inside a Toyota SUV in Fayetteville just after 12:40 a.m. Thursday when officers approached. Officers saw a card covered in a white powder in Jones’ lap as he used a credit card to scrape the cocaine, a police report said.

Officers opened the door and ordered Jones to put his hands in the air. According to the report, Jones kept his left hand out of view, forcing at least one officer to draw his handgun.

Maybe Jones should have hit a couple lines before some games last season. Jags coach Jack Del Rio had become increasingly frustrated with Jones’ demeanor and work ethic, making him inactive for three games.

But really, I don't understand what the big issue about the use of drugs and our athletes.

Jeff Weaver blows trees with the best of them and Eric Chavez does cocaine all the time too. People need to realize they are like any other big-shot profession (lawyer, stock broker, doctor) wealthy people party big and do drugs. Yes Jones’ should have picked a better time and place, like a Las Vegas Night Club. Now, it's just sad and embarrassing to his family, Jags fans and Arkansas fans.

SO THANK YOU MATT JONES FOR HITTING THE SLOPES HARDER THEN A FAMILY OF FOUR ON VACATION IN ASPEN

Where do you go to school, kid? That's the most grammatical error riddled "article" I've read in a long time. Even for a blogger you fail.

Lisa how about you write a article. See you are really going to work in that department. You are a joke. I must be doing something correct if so many people are reading the pieces I do. Or if it's such a concern how about you come out and teach me how to write. But judging how you don't put a picture up you are probably some broke looking girl. If you were entering the NFL DRAFT on looks you would probably be a 7th round DT for the Redskins. How is the grammar on this comment Lisa.

I think you meant "write AN article". A few question marks are also missing.

And maybe a grade higher than C in 8th grade English would have helped too.

I can't believe that you would be excited that anyone would be busted for drugs! It doesn't matter the sex or race. And this is someone's son. So, ease up some, ok.

It is a joke. You can't sense that the article. Get a clue. Yes I know it is a very serious issue and the Jaguars have a decision to make. Yes I understand kids look up to athletes like Matt Jones and is not the activity he should be getting himself into. Relax I was just making a point can't think of many white athletes getting caught doing lines in a car in their old college town.

Man, what an ass you are!!!
She [ Lisa ] is correct, your article sucks as a " serious" writter.
Then you blast her for pointing it out.
Why so racist with the comments on a white guy ???
White, black, whatever the color does not matter.
YOU are part of the racist problem, in my opinion.
But my opinion is just that, MY opinion.
Go ahead and blast me too, it makes you look tough !!!!

First off, Scott's weak attempt at a come back speaks to his writing ability. Also, YOU KNOW he copied and pasted the comment into Word to spell/grammar check that shit.

But as for this article increasing racism... come on! Until we all mesh into one slanty eyed, caramel colored, straight haired "United States American" race, racism will exist. Additionally, being racist is not having a negative mindset against another race. Racism is, essentially, noticing a difference at all. You're telling me that's going to stop happening before we all look alike?

America actually coddled racism with programs like affirmative action, which work to knock one race down and favor another... which was the exact problem USA was having when they created the programs. Only to turn around and hypocritically say "Don't be racist."

If anything, this article is pointing out that cops AREN'T racist, and that white athletes are put under the same scrutiny as black athletes. Don't open Pandora's Box by calling someone a racist when you don't understand the article. Remember reading is fundamental.

The grammar on the comment is also relatively poor. You got your point across though: she hurt your feelings by pointing out that you write inadequately, and like a five-year old you had to fire back with an amateur comeback. Good job.

I don't fault you for being an amateur. It's great to see "special" people try to succeed in areas they lack the necessary IQ. My question is how did this crap get on my Google news front page???

I didn't go off on her because she pointed out the style of my writing. I appreciate any feedback I get positive or negative. I wrote this article in my head on the way to work. Typed it out in five minutes. Next time I will make sure my staff off editors reads over it. Since I get paid so much money from to write these. If it's that big of deal stop reading blogs read the official article with no9 humor and have a day. But like "Be" stated I added humor and if you don't like it don't read it. You are probably the same loser who calls sports talk radio and screams you don't like the host. Well Dave turn the station. And again what is so bad about the piece I wrote. Please point out.

Then Dave don't try to defend her. Let her speak for herself. Your probably are one of those guys who has to defend women in hopes they think your a nice guy and you may get a chance to lay the pipe. If I'm the Mirage in Vegas I'm putting the over/under odds of you last having sex in 1999. And yes I get off to making fun of people on blogs. It's all I do. No actually I work all day at a Law Firm for the summer because I'm a college athlete something you can't say and I'm bored out of my mind. So I do what I enjoy, writing about sports, because all the joke lawyers don't know anything for me to talk to them about.

Keep it coming. I love it.

Thanks Brad. Again he didn't kill three kids while driving drunk. He did some cocaine. I'm sure the majority of white people who make good money have done it once in their life. It's not that big of a deal. Why is first everyone shocked and second why do you have to get up in arms and bring race and me making fun of him because he uses drugs. It's not like a did a piece on how Len Bias death was funny because he did cocaine.

Scott some of the most successful people I know here in Silicon Valley can't spell and their grammar is bad. I do know a couple of spelling and grammar police around and they love to point out their their imaginary intelligence. What's funny is most of them work for the guy who can't spell. Go figure.

Whatever ... the points were made. I'm surprised anyone can put together a proper sentence including correctly spelled words with the current txting craze.

Being a fomer resident of Fayetteville myself and having watched Matt Jones grow up on the field, it's extremely sad to learn of his fall from grace. He appeared to have a good head on his shoulders while in college. And maybe, just maybe seeing a "white" athlete getting caught will place an emphasis on not just black, white or latino athletes, but what happens when there is a lot of pressure, when drugs are plentiful as well as the money ... the culture of the sport's world in general. Goes to show you that success and money can't buy happiness or contentment. Wonder what's missing in their lives?

Scott, the only thing i got a problem with is the blanket statement that black athelete's get more involved in illegal activities. Do you know every black athelete in the world? Come tothink of it, you'd have to know every white athelete in the world in order to make a comparison. So, do you? Well, do ya? I wanted to put the word punk in there ala dirty harry but since folk took your article to heart ,lord knows what they woulda made of that comment.

Ben your classic. I'm not being racist. Pretty easy fact. There are more black athletes and they get in trouble more then white athletes. I'm sorry. When you give black athletes millions of dollars who grew up without anything of course some issues will occur. Notice how the only sport left with many white athletes, baseball, you don't here that many off-field issues. And when you do Chris Hancock and Josh Hamilton ESPN does a big piece on them. If you want black athletes to not get in trouble tell Michael Irvin to lay off the pipe, PacMan wait I'm sorry Adam to get out of ATL strip clubs, Nate Newton to not have 300 pounds of weed in his car, and Rae Curruth not to kill his pregnant wife and hide in his trunk. I don't see Eli Manning and Tom Glavine doing this. Yes white athletes and white people do crimes. There are more white people in jails then blacks, the catch is they usually aren't star players so ESPN doesn't feel the need to go as big if a piece on them. If LeBron and Steve Black do the same crime of course LeBron will get more attention. Fix your life Ben

All of you giving him crap about his grammer are a joke. What do you want the guy to do have his MLA handbook next to him for every article he writes and properly document his sources. If you want to read something professionally written read a novel or see if you can get a job reading essays for a contest. I will take entertianing writing with bad grammer all day over boring writing with great grammer. The man tried to make light of something that happens every offseason, an nfl star gets in trouble with the law. If you are a figure in society like an entertianer or professional athlete be prepared to hear the roasting from the media if you screw up. If you dont want to make headlines dont do drugs in your car or dont make it rain 100s in vegas, its simple.

I personally feel that the majority of reporting is targeted towards black athletes, not that black athletes are any more involved in illegal activities than whites. When I say reporting, I mean at all levels. Racism certainly exists at all levels and so more people, i.e. victims, police, media, etc. are more likely to "overlook" white athletes wrong doings.

    Hey Scott,

Are there really more black athletes involved in illegal actvities than whites? But overall as whole I think you believe many of these "black fans" are angry at ESPN are upset for no reason. I mean when Martina Hingis tested postive for coke and media didn't so much as blink. When former St. Louis Blues Mike Danton was charged in a murder-for-hire plot, did the media pick up the story? When the Tampa Bay Devil Ray and Boston Red Sox had a knockout brawl, where the comments stating that hip-hop music was ruining the sport? But when T.O. misses a phone call to schedule a drug test, it is the top story on ESPN for three days straight. Or when a young black athlete chooses not to let the NBA determine when and where he can work and goes to Europe instead of college. Why is he doomed to failure by the media? So these angry "black fans" must be way off base and just looking for another way the "MAN" is keeping them down. I think you would remember when Cedric Benson had his little run in with our wonderful police, there were calls for him to but cut within hours of the news braking. I wonder if the same people will calling for Matt to be release from the team? Probably not, there will calls for Matt to get the help he needs so he can return to being a productive memeber of society.

But I for one don't completely blame the media, if black atheles took more responsibility for their actions, we wouldn't be having this discussion. But nevertheless the facts remain if Matt Jones was black this story would be front page news and another example of what is wrong with football on sports radio stations coast-to-coast. Instead of a clip on the last page of the newspaper and pleads for his priacy while he and his family deals with the hard struggle of substance abuse on the radio.

Matthew I like your take but remember like I said most white athletes aren't big-time names. Nobody cares what Troy Murphy does. For TO ESPN puts it on air because he is on the Cowboys, America's team. When TO was on the 49ers he never got the same pub. As for that I find it funny when TO wanted a extension in his contract he was sure able to be reached. So when he needs to get a drug test he some how doesn't get service. Classic. Also when you bring Martina Hingis into a argument I can't give much love. Nobody cares about her. Now if Andrea Aggassi in 95 was hitting rails it would be big news. Remember pust on what will get the best ratings. The world is controlled by money. Just like if a white soccer player in Europe did something. American's wouldn't care. Remember ESPN puts on what will get the best ratings. The world is controlled by money. Now if Tom Brady tried to kill Bridget Moynahan it would be a bigger story then OJ.

Thanks Jan. I haven't been taught that in Kumon yet. Your math skills are amazing. Really is that why black athletes get in trouble more. Then explain why there are so few crimes with MLB, NHL, and NASCAR the sports white athletes have a large number in. Black athletes do more crimes. College football, there is a good amount of white and balck players. Black athletes getting in a lot more trouble. Matt Flynn did the correct thin, won a BCS, Ryan Perrilloux caught doing drugs and violating team rules. Also got shot in high school. No I don't think all black athletes are all criminals just like I don't think all white athletes are perfect.

The reason why it seems as though black athletes are in trouble more is because their misgivings are reported more than whites. The system is set up against blacks due to it's anti everything but anglo-saxon beginnings. There are 4,630 black men in prison nationwide per 100,000 black men in the population, whereas the rate for white men is 482.28 In ten states and the District of Columbia, black men are incarcerated at staggeringly high rates that range from 5,740 to 7,859 per 100,000. In contrast, the range among the ten states with the highest rates of white male incarceration is 620 to 1,151. The highest rate of white male incarceration (1,151) is lower than the lowest rate of black male incarceration (1,195). I've seen it all too often. Group of anglo kids doing wrong things, they get taken to their parents. A group of black kids doing equally wrong things, they get the book thrown at them and punished to the highest extent of the law. I have family members who work in the prison system and I've worked in social services for many many years. I've looked at things as objectively as possible and at research. Anglo crimes unless it's armed robbery, murder, molestation, or kidnapping get swept under the rug and is more or less handled in-house. Everyone else is punished to the fullest extent for lesser crimes. You wrote this ill-conceived and, poorly thought out, and counterproductive article maybe because you were under pressure, have not slept for days and have lost some semblence of reality due to deprivation, or you thought that you had something profound to say. What does Jacksonville having black quarterbacks have to do with Matt Jones? It's articles like these that leave people in cognitive dissonance wanting to gouge their own eyes out for having read this and slapping the person next to them for not warning them.

Ok Laurence Fishburne as the professor in 1995 hit Higher Learning. What does Jacksonville having black quarterbacks have to do with Matt Jones? Nothing but it's called adding detail in the article. If i just wrote Jones caught 77 passes for 1,075 yards and nine touchdowns in his first two pro seasons. Would be boring. I do find it interesting that the Jags had three black quarterbacks. Especially one nasty enough to wear a visor. Every needs to just relax.

Scott, you have the feeling of entitlement that most every anglo person in America feels. You have completely objectified black quarterbacks. What makes it necessary to mention that they are black? That is not adding detail, but shameless derailment. Your fascination with them being black constitutes that they are something "other" than your established norm. Is it necessary to state that Marvin Harrison caught x amount of passes for x amount of yards from an anglo quarterback? Why is it not fascinating that other clubs have all anglo quarterbacks on the team? Once again this is apart of anglo America's norm and you are so entranced in it that you don't realize it. Quarterbacks who are black are always described by the media as being athletic whereas quarterbacks who are anglo are described as field generals, strategists, and intelligent. An example is Timmy Chang who set the NCAA career passing yards record. He is described as just a product of the offense. "Yeah he threw the ball big deal." However, Colt Brennan is described as having an uncanny ability to find open receivers delivering the ball quick and accurately. The media could not wait to crown Colt despite Timmy's achievement. Colt was in the same system, however the anglo controlled media used wordplay to downplay Timmy. I don't think you can just throw the ball up for grabs similar to what goes on in a school yard and pass for over 17 thousand yards. Timmy caused disequilibrium in the system due to him being of Hawaiian decent. I see the media saying that he is not a quarterback and his skills are not stellar. Matt Leinert's skills are wanting, but he was still given a chance in the NFL. People don't want to talk about that. Often those who are in power don't want to hear the truth. Chew on that and try not to choke.

First I'm curious are you black? Or does not that matter either. Second I say black quarterbacks because there aren't many great ones in the league. The two most importatn skills a NFL quarterback can have is decision making and leadership. Two skills the black community's most loved qb prior to him going Don King on dog Fights Michael Vick lack. One of the greatest athletes to ever play the sport but guess what he couldn't pass and his team didn't. While a nasty guy like Jeff Garcia who lacks all skills somehow racks wins throughout his career. Michael Vick was one the best college quarterbacks ever and thats because it's not that hard to a ball from under center and run. Guys in the NFL are faster and stronger and a qb just can't do it every play like Tebow does at Florida. Tebow is a white qb and don't make it in the NFL. First time he gets hit by a NFL linebacker he will think before he does that again.
There has only been one black quarterback in the history of the league to win a Super Bowl. Had guess what Doug Williams throw the ball.

So just like L you probably go wow that x team has a white point guard, or Danancia Patrick is a female driver. I guess in your world we should just look at one of the few white NBA players as a NBA player and her as just a driver. And yes L I wish we could.

I'm sorry the world works L is decided on race, money, and power. I'm not racist I'm just keeping it real. The biggets thing why I country is still having race issues is guess what people are loyal to their race. So if your a gm and it's between and a white and black qb with the same skills they are going to go with the white qb. Why because he can relate to him more. If you don't believe this you are just naive.Just like why does ESPN make such a big deal there were two black coaches in the Super Bowl two years ago. What that isn't news to you. Guess what people in this world look at each other by race, sex, and income value. And guess what L it will happen like this forever.

But if you want we can go back and forth all day. I do respect your opinions.

The problem is the ignorance that is perpetuated by those who are in power. There is only one race...the human race. Humans are wonderous due to phenotypical variations that exist. No one knows where they begin or where they end. We are all the same at the molecular level. This is not taught in schools or in homes of the unlearned. Anthropologists and others in the scientific community that are real scientists knowingly acknowledge the misrepresentation of their predecessors who separated individuals according to phenotypical variations. It is irresponsible science to do so. Race separation is purely sociopolitical. Always has been. Early scientists knew that there was not any difference among people at the molecular level. Those who spoke up were put to death since it was against the norm. Sports (football) is not immune to the perpetuating of "racial division" which is modern day legalized occupational slavery. Given that 100% of Club owners and those who are in the front offices making all of the decisions are anglo or whose families are from the caucasus mountains. Things will remain the same as long as economic power is monopolized and those who don't fit the pheotypically accepted mold are oppressed and suppressed with the illusion of power. Look at the NFL Combine. Similar to the public auctions of chattle held in the squares of southern cities. Elitism not racism at its best. Everyone is a "boy" in the club owners eyes. Petrino was a prime example. He wanted control over mind, body and soul. He wanted to be able to tell grown men that they could not talk during flights and had to speak at a certain level during meals. He was not able to do this and fled. Which is why he can only coach at a college in the Southern United States.
Many of the star players were idiots before they were stars. Million dollar contracts does not alther the mental processes of an individual, it gives a fool an opportunity to do more foolish things. Vick was just that...a fool. He and his brother.
There are not many great black quarterbacks due to it being a coveted position reserved for anglo men. If a person is mentored, nurtured and trained to play this position, they will progress. Many blacks were not and still are not mentored, nurtured, and trained. Oft times good black quarterbacks are forced to become wide receivers, runningbacks, or defensive backs. Steve Young was a defensive back by trade and made a quarterback who was mentored, nurtured, and trained. What gives?

Well Steve Young is a very smart man. He has a law degree. Not many people can do that. Let's be real most black athletes come from lower class and uneducated homes. In order to be a successful qb you need to be smart and make decisions. Now for example Donovan Mcnabb grew up with two parents who taught him well in Chicago. Why he is a good qb. Vince Young is dumb he got a 6 on the combine test. And no surprise struggles at reading defenses in the NFL. At Texas all he had to do was a option read out the guy and two read route from either his wr or te. mack brown made it so simple for him. Ryan Leaf another idiot and the guy drafted ahead him Manning a very smart guy. Same reason why black pitchers aren't around their are no good coaches in the inner cities. The only way to play in the MLB is play on year round travel teams that cost a lot of money. Same with the only kids playing qb are ones whose parents are cashing out for personal coaches.

Black athletes don't just come from lower class and uneducated homes. Lets be real. Scouts purposely find individuals who come from the inner city. As I stated before, it is because sports is what they do and all that they have. They don't acquire inner city children because they are good individuals. No it is because they are great athletes. Once again you have obliviously objectified people who phenotypically present with a dark pigmentation. Black athletes don't have to come from the inner city. This is a control issue at its nasty core. The anglo elitists running sports venture out to find individuals who will not think critically. These individuals are easy to control. Vince Young is a prime example. He has never been mentored, nurtured, or trained. Quarterback coaches for years have taught qb's to throw overhand and preached mechanics. Not with Vince. He was set up to fail due to the coaches wanting to pad their stats by allowing him to do what he did to win. He won games for those anglo Texas coaches and that's all they cared about...winning. Not how downright ugly Vince's mechanics are as a qb. He will suffer in the NFL and will get tossed to the side and will end up on sportscenter's Biggest Busts list. Donovan was coached, mentored, nurtured, and trained. This shows in his mechanics. Lets be real again. As I have stated before many star athletes are socially passed in school and have never really been taught critical thinking skills leaving them high and dry later on in life. Making poor decisions costing them millions and their careers due to the illusion of power they are cast in. You and others continue to find fault in the athlete when in reality it is those individuals who allowed them to coast through because of how many raffel tickets they sold and how much revenue they generated due to their athletic prowess. They are being used and don't know it. Why? They have been conditioned to not think critically. If they did, don't you think college athletes would be receiving some type of monetary award through profit sharing. Look at how much revenue football itself brings in. Those scouts start finding them younger and younger now and giving them the false hope of fame and fortune and not preparing them for ownership one day but made slaves to the club and praised as long as they are productive. Pavlov 101. Yes inner city children are targeted. Their parents more often than not are willing to help pimp their child for the "promised" money instead of grooming them to become owners one day. When these athletes get to college what classes are they taking? Are they taking finance, economics, philosophy, education, physics, anthropology, geology, psychology. Are they getting a broad and meaningful education? Their majors and/or degrees aren't publicized that much. It is apparently and grotesquely obvious that your outlook on athletics is very narrow in scope and scale and that as long as individuals like you post baseless and thoughtless information there will not be any progress. You are not trapped in a tunnel, you are trapped in a bubble leaving you thinking that movement in any direction is progression.

No.. all of this because someone wants to bring up racism just because they have their own insecurities.... L you think your smart but honestly get a life...

He brought up that Jacksonville had three black quarterbacks and you get upset about that... yet everytime the "first black man" does something it is made big news by them and everyone that thinks it is some great accomplishment. If black people want to be looked at as equals to white people than they need to start acting like it and stop making a big deal out of things that black people do that are good and that a white guy has already done. When there is a coaching job open and a black man isnt hired for the job... the first thing I always hear is "was there racism involved." It is just stupid. Mike Vick is still talked about being the first african american quarterback to be taken 1st in the draft.. it was made big such big news and if you are an african american in that situation I'm sure your happy about it as you should be. So who cares if someone says something about hey that quarterback is black... lets be real.. you love it... I'm not racist AT ALL and have many friends of many different races... but honestly black quarterabacks are looked at differently than white quarterbacks and they always will be. Is that a racist statement.. no. When people say "hey that quarterback is black" it is a compliment because they are more athletic most of the time. African Americans are gifted in ways that white people are not gifted with most of the time when it comes to athletic abilities and that is just the truth... it is not a racist statement and when people try to make it out to be it is just ridiculous.

Racism is real but get over it... it will be around forever.. and sure there are some pretty ignorant racists in this world... but some of the most racist people in this world aren't even white. There are some pretty powerful racist african americans in america right now.

I agree with a lot of what you said Adam. I hear the race card pulled a lot when it doesn't need to be. Thinking of the upcoming presidential election where we have black against white, I thought that African American voters should look at the candidates policies and decisions and not their skin color at all to determine who you are going to vote for. However, after i thought about it, if i was black, I would want a black person to do something that has never been done before by someone of that race. It made sense to ignore their policies and look at skin color some. Ill probably vote for Obama too.

It relates to sports as well, if there had never been a black head coach and a black man was trying to get the job I really wouldn't care if he was any good, I would still want him to get the job over the white guy because it paves the way for future black head coaches.

I agree with you adam that black QB are usually more athletic than whites. Blacks in general are better athletes than whites. That's why you see more black QBs at the college level than the pros. Which isn't a bad thing. You see a lot of black QB in college converted to other positions in the NFL. Michael Robinson is a RB, Pat White wont play QB in the NFL, Reggie Ball (QB at Georgia Tech) plays reciever, Antwan Randel El plays reciever as well as others.

All the blacks QB in the NFL can run while maybe one or two white QB can run.

McNabb, Cullpepper, Vick, McNair, Russell, Cambell, Jackson, are all runners who can scramble for yards.

Manning, Brady, Palmer, Eli, Rivers, are all pocket passer and just throw the ball away and don't even try to scramble because they now they can't.

I'm not racist at all, some of my best friends growing up have been black. I actually live in the City (orlando) so you I haven't seen a lot of racism until I went to college last year in Mississippi. It was a bit of a culture shock because you are either black or white there. And there is a lot of racism there, mainly by the older people, not the students. So hopefully by the time we are old racism wont be as big of an issue.

I did not bring up racism. Scott stated "I also must applaud ESPN for reporting the news so black sports fans don't cry about the news never reporting on how white athletes get in trouble... unless you're talking about steroids." Black people were objectified by this statement and the media supported this article by posting it. When something is done in poor taste, I don't care who it is, it is poor. You don't understand. Anglos have the power not the "powerful racist african americans in america right now." When you have the ability to exhert influence on a people and public policy, you have the power. Who are these powerful racist african americans? How have they exherted power on a people? Are these powerful racist african americans make up 95% of congress and your local governement? Qualify your empty statement.

Adam, I will provide direction to your misguided soul. This is what athletic trainers, physiological psychologists, anthropologists, cognitive neuroscientists etc. all know. Everyone who is born into this world has the ability to learn (barring some type of neuro or developmental abnormality impeding the learning process). Piaget and other developmental scientists are classics and hold that everyone goes through certain developmental stages, however not at the same time. Neural connections are strengthened through repeated behaviors or paying attention to those behaviors or actions. It does not matter what "race" a person is everyone has the ability to do athletics. If a person is training is key. Having someone to mentor and instruct you and you practice, practice, and practice some more those neural connections are developed. No one is born into this world knowing how to walk, talk, or knowing math, science, etc. These things are learned behavior. If you were not taught to read, you would not be able to read anything on this forum and if you have not practiced you would not be able to comprehend. If you don't know these things, then file a tort against your school system for not educating you on these matters. If you were not taught to read, you would not be able to read anything on this forum.
Sports and money are concomitant concepts. Everyone wants to win. Recruiters are trained to find those persons who will give their team a chance to win. They don't choose the 4.0 wiz or the microbiologist to give them a chance to win. No. They go out and find individuals who have spent their lives training to do whatever it is they are looking for them to do. They aren't looking for academics to fill roles. As an owner who would you choose? A person who sees playing a sport as something to do and does not put effort into learning it or would you choose a person whose sole mission in life is to play that sport and do nothing else and they live it and breath it?

I have to ask you about that ill-thought out statement in reference to "racists african americans in america right now" as you put it. What have they done to oppress a group of people in America? Who are the powerful african americans that have lynched and viciously murdured people in public forums while they brought picnic baskets and their children to watch the spectacle? How are these powerful african americans discriminating against people by offering higher insurance rates and interest rates on loans than anyone else based on skin color? What powerful african americans are putting up degrading signage on their businesses about people? I see. modern day tactic. Call the minority and the ones without power racist. Misdirection and projection. Before you make a completely gross and inheretly dumb statement like that again do some reading on philosophy and history.

"If black people want to be looked at as equals to white people than they need to start acting like it and stop making a big deal out of things that black people do that are good and that a white guy has already done." Another case of incompetent until proven competent whereas whites are already competent and need do nothing else. Classist thinking which is the basis of social structures in America established by anglo americans. Based on what you stated, Blacks are still low and need to meet the standards of anglos. You said what you said and did not realize it because your outlook on life is totally different due to your being apart of the status quo. No different in anglo owned and operated sports. This is learned behavior and has been nurtured, mentored and practiced for centuries. Get over it?? Utterly and completely laughable.

What are you talking about? Whites have the desire to play and determination to play RB in the NFL they just aren't athletic enough to do so. Nobody is saying anything bad about black football players. Wake up man, in case you haven't noticed for the most part, blacks are better athletes than whites. Look at the NBA, can you name me a white superstar in today's game? For every 10 white guys you can name in the NFL that can run a 4.4 i could give you 20 black guys that could do the same thing.
      Get off your high horse.

Haha nice try. Had you read my article on Texas A&M (has since been deleted because of anger from a government official) you would know I'm nothing close to a racist, xenophobe or whatever else you'd like to call me. Not to mention i was named after an african american and have many a friend, who wouldn't consider that comment offensive in anyway. I didn't list a reason as to why, because its obvious as is everything in american sports this day and age. If you can produce at a high level no one cares what color you are; white RB's can't. plain and simple.

Rather I was just pointing out a fact, for better or worse. It was in no way designed to be racial divisive.

So instead of continuing to live in this PC culture that is ruining the first amendment, you need to calm down realize it was nothing of the racist sort. It's people like you my friend that continue this race issue, by bashing anyone that says something not coinciding with "white guilt", or the standard PC ethics that have been established. Most of us would like to move on, so should you. Save your high horse for a time when it is truly needed.

I don't think I am smart Adam. You think that I am and you proved it by making such an insecure playground remark. Daniel, I guess that you believe that sarcasm is a sign of higher thinking? Individuals who say things like "race card" are obviously obliviously, classist and elitist individuals or individuals who want to be apart of the elitist regime by supporting their effort of keeping others down. I guess that you are saying that race does not matter. "Get over it!!??" Absurd!!! Try telling Emmit Till's family to get over it. At the age of 14 he was castrated, nose cut off, head bashed in, tongue cut out, wrapped in barbwire, and then dumped in the river all because he whistled at an anglo woman and commented that she looked good. Those same anglo men went to church the next day and praised god. These ideals, these beliefs have been passed down to their children. Learned behavior. Those same families are still living in Money, Mississippi or other areas. They might be in public office or in positions that make decisions concerning others. Anglo people are oblivious to this. Tell the families of those individual's who were lynched to get over it.

It is not the black athlete who has phased out anglo running backs, it is those who do the recruiting. Blacks are not better athletes and blacks are gifted in when it comes to athletic abilities? That is the most outlandish and comical thing I have ever read. That is not the truth. Adam, there is not any inherent or scientific evidence that supports, for lack of a better word, the stupid ascersion you made. If a person trains to do something all their life, then they will do just that. Athletic abilities has nothing to do with what country a person is from or how they phenotypically present. When a person is nutured, trained, and mentored in something they develop strong neural connections in that particular area. This has been observed and this has been documented. Some people show more aptitude than others and this is not indicative of "race." Concepts such as these are not apart of public school curriculum leaving the masses ignorant to critical knowledge in order to establish the truth.

I stated before and reiterate that sports, especially football, is modern day legalized occupational slavery and that everyone is a "boy" in the upper crust’s eyes. Brett Favre's situation is evident of this. No matter his greatness or what he has accomplished, he is still property. He is saying it in so many words. This is why he is pissed and is talking, but not talking.

The use of drugs and crime is not exclusive to any group of individuals no matter the country they come from or socioeconomic status. I stated before that I have worked in social services for years. I have met many a doctor, lawyer, CEO's from many cultures and countries who were hardcore drug users. "Hey that qb is black, is a compliment?" That is the problem. This is another example where black people are seen as incompetent until they prove competence.

I think it is kind of strange that I am talking about racism in sports and you bring up a story about Emmit Till which has nothing to do with sports and it happend back in 1955. For real?!... don't get me wrong.. any story like that from back in the day is terrible.. but it is also the past. It is not an everyday occurance anymore that a black man or woman or child is lynched or hung or dragged or beaten. So if you want to bring up 1955 that's fine but that is completely irrelevant to anything. You say that I should tell the families of loved ones who were lynched to get over it... yet there are gangs in the inner city who kill innocent people everydays.. a large population of them being african american. Tell the loved ones of those innocently killed by these gang members to just get over it... same situation.

And then talk to me about how we have racists in office... ok so your telling me that we should put someone like Jesse Jackson or Keys who have made publicly racist remarks about different races... ya that would be very intelligent.

One last thing... I don't understand how you can take offense to someone saying that a certain race is more athletic than another. It's the truth.. I'm not saying they are necessarily born with better athletic abilities but I mean how many 5'8 white guys do you see dunking... and it's just clear in watching sports that african americans are normally faster. How many white guys do you see going to the olympics running track other than the long distance stuff.. I can think of maybe one.

Saying "Hey that qb is black" is a compliment. And it is not a problem.. it is an observation.. nothing more. Sure if you have qb's like Vick coming into the league that is like nobody else because of his great athletic abilities, he is going to have to prove himself.. but if Mike Vick were white he would have to prove to everyone that he could be successful as well. It has nothing to do with color.. it has everything to do with the rare athletic abilities that a lot of black quarterbacks have... not all of them but some. Black people are the only reason race is an issue in sports... I'm sorry and I know your going to fight back on that one.. but its the honest truth... until they get over their insecurities and realize that nobody cares that they are a different color... racism will always be brought up.

    L,
Most of what you said I agree with but I took exception to a few points.

"modern day legalized occupational slavery, and that everyone is a "boy" in the upper crust’s eyes"

This just doesn't make sense. Slavery was legalized in past times to begin with. Secondly you can't call something slavery when they are being paid. Im sorry you just can't. Not to mention their salary puts them in the top 2% of the country in regards to wage: thus making them the "elitists" you hate so much. Stop listening to Jesse Jackson or Al Sharpton, as we've already seen they've done more harm then good for the african-american community the last decade anyway.

By the way your anger toward the classists & elitists (much of which i share) sounds to socialist for my liking haha and socialism my friend is the worst. other than communism.

"Brett Favre's situation is evident of this. No matter his greatness or what he has accomplished, he is still property. He is saying it in so many words. This is why he is pissed and is talking, but not talking."

Sorry but that's America in general. It's all about what have you done for me lately.

    ""Get over it!!??" Absurd!!!"

Yes but not really L, in a sense your right, none of the treatment of the past should be forgotten but perhaps it's time to move on. For instance maybe if the muslims and jews could "get over it" one day we wouldn't have alot of the problems we do today. I know it seems ignorant and rash but it is really just a harsh way of saying forgiveness; lets move on because it's the only way we can stop that kind of thing. Any other way of dealing with it will ultimately serve to cause more division and perpetuate the vicious cycle. Forgive but don't forget.

"The use of drugs and crime is not exclusive to any group of individuals no matter the country they come from or socioeconomic status. I stated before that I have worked in social services for years."

ya you're right but those on the lower end of that socioeconomic ladder do the jail time, thus becoming a statistic and skewing the overall outlook. It's sadly part of our system, those with more money or power (regardless of color) are more likely to get off; especially if they can afford a great lawyer. But when the U.S. consumes 25-30% of all drugs in the world i'd say it has some effect on where your born. Or if i was born in a southeastern asian country where they execute drug dealers, it wouldn't be worth the average person's risk. Your statements are to broad but i see what you're getting at.

"Anglo people are oblivious to this."

Anglo people? is that your PC way of saying white people without triggering mass hysteria on the part of overly defensive white guys? haha

"Athletic abilities has nothing to do with what country a person is from"

Then please explain to me why India (soon to surpass China as the most populous country on the earth) has little to no major athletes in anything outside of cricket? Some would argue their diet, their customs, their culture, their overall emphasis or lack thereof on sports; but either way there is clearly a difference.
I'm sure a soccer player in iraq or north korea will have a tougher time being a pro then one here; and we're not even good. It's not a race issue but one based on cultural differences as well as a social structure issue.

You are looking at the situation I mention (legalized occupational slavery) from a purely lega or law standpoint. Do you believe that because something is made a law that it is absolutely right. Do you believe that because these athletes are getting paid that they should be treated the way they are? They are pimped, used, and dumped later. How many past players are owners of their respective teams? How many past players are sitting on the board of directors of their respective teams? Their getting paid gives them the illusion that they have made it. Many of us are under occupational slavery or coersion. How many people can just walk in the human resources department and say I would like to get a fourty percent raise next week and it actually be done? How many people can tell their supervisor that they are going on a two year vacation with pay and return to that same job.
I must ask. Why are you attaching the word "hate" to what I am saying. Is it because I am speaking about real issues that I am being hateful. I am commenting and presenting information. I have not stated that I hate anything or anyone. I see that you are have objectified me by saying that I am angry and that I have been listening to Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson. Forgiveness is the easy way out for those who have enjoyed and enjoy committing attrocities. Why would those individuals who planned, plotted, premeditated, and viciously murdered that 14 year old boy deserve forgiveness? They knew what they were doing when they did what they did? You are saying that in order for those things to stop people need to move on. Qualify "move on." What does that mean? What does that look like? This has to be answered in order to know where we are going?
You and others have danced around the Emmit Till issue and what I've stated before about their only being one race. No one seems to want to talk about that but attempt an ill-conceived plot to downplay what I've stated by trying to attach an emotion to what I've presented or say that I'm using the "race card." Anglo "white inhabitant of the United States." Anglo-American as it were. Anglo as it is.
Answer these questions about India not have any athletes in anything outside of cricket. Do they have pee wee league football for their youth? Do they have middle and high school football teams? Do they have college football teams? Is there a professional football league that individuals aspire to be in later in life? Same questions apply for other professional sports teams (baseball, tennis, basketball, volleyball, etc.) You partly answered your own question when you mentioned cultural differences. Those differences are superficial just like hair and skin tone. If people are mentored, trained, and nurtured to do something, they will be good at it. If Cricket was the thing in the U.S., there would be more athletes playing it. Irresponsible and biased science has lead people to believe that certain "races" are good at certain things. If a person reads a lot, they develop neural connections that provide increased aptitude towards that. If a person is immersed in mathmatics, neural connections are strenghened. Barring developmental issues, everyone is capable of learning. Cognitive information processing dictates this. Despite the country, everyone has the ability if given the opportunity to develope athletic ability. Develope being the opperative word.

You are too much L. You named four guys great. Now how many black athletes run a 4.3. The list would be longer there your essay length comments. And Jason Sehorn was not 6'4 and played qb in college. YEs on Kevin Curtis and Tim Dwight, who was a track star at Iowa. Drew Bennett is the only one I will give you credit for. He was recruited to be a quarterback at UCLA. Got moved to wide receiver. Again L you need to learn to relax.

Scott, There are alot of black athletes that don't run a 4.3 (far more). The individuals that do are sought out and hand picked from these proverbial recruiting pipelines. Victoria's Secret does not choose just anyone to advertise their lingerie.

"It is not an everyday occurance..." Allow me to help you understand something Adam. Discrimination is not overt anymore due to laws; laws do not change the hearts and minds of anyone. Neighborhoods are still segregated, schools are still segregated (socially). Just look at the lunch room area and see where children sit. Everything that I have said is relevent. Adam, qualify what you have said in an attempt to discredit what I have said. I posted here in order to show people how stupidity, selective ignorance, and shallow thinking takes place within the sports realm. Based on the comments, it seems that I violated the status quo and stepped on the toes of those who still in 2009, want things to remain the same. Humanity still has a long way to go before there is real unity. So, Adam. Why are you talking about racism? Is there something you want to talk about? I did not even use the word racism in any of my postings to describe the state of oppressing others. I used elitism. There is no such thing as racism. Those who say things like, "That's the way it is or things will always be this way" are narrow minded individuals who are comfortable with where they are and don't care about anyone but themselves. I believe that anglo people are truly affraid to answer for the attrocities that many have committed over the years and attempt to misdirect such foul misgivings by talking about inner city people who do not have any policitical clout or say so in matters of government. That is why anglo people are always saying forget about it. Move on. Fear of what would happen if people start thinking about things. Jim Crow and William Lynch tactics in 2009 attempting to strip and control the minds of others in order to break them. Keep people dumb and you've got them right? Star athletes are kept dumb, especially the ones who are socially promoted. No one wants to talk about that especially when school districts receive the bulk of their revenue from athletics (namely football).

no.. because this is a website where people write articles L about sports... not join up and start stupid racism fights that nobody could care less about. I can already tell your well educated.. sorry if you somehow take offense to that or think it's racist that I think your educated... you don't have to prove anything to me... this is just completely ridiculous that race issues are being brought on this board when the article was completely meant to be funny... it is people like you that make this world so hard to live in.

Scott, I would like to ask you this. What makes you believe I am in a disposition of unrest and need to relax? Is it because I have something to say or do you assume that because of the information that I have presentedis coming from an "angry black person?" Society or specificaly mainstream anglo american society has deemed that only "angry black people" speak against the status quo. So if I'm not black and speaking against the status quo, then I am condemned all the same. Right? Isn't that how it goes?

6'4" White guys with blonde hair aren't supposed to be fast, Why can't tall white guys with blonde hair be fast, oh beacause that's a generalization, just like how Scott says, I am glad to see a white guy get busted rather than a black guy, just because its different than what we are use to seeing. So "L" when you get done watching "roots" or reading the "Narrative life of Frederick Douglass." I would suggest not to talk racism and society with degenerate Sports fan. Get a George and keep listening to Public Enemy's Cult Classic "Fight The Power"

"Roots" and "Narrative life of Frederick Douglass." Again the objectification continues. You have taken historical items and belittled their importance with your less than monumental and egregious statement. I am not talking racism with anyone. What is it are you attempting to say exactly? You appear to be masking what you really want to say in your wording. Speak your mind or is sarcasm indicative of how you think or is there something insidious within your nature that is beckoning to reveal itself? It matters not who says it or where it is. Stupid is stupid. Unfortunantly stupid can not be gotten rid of due to there always being individuals who seek to glorify, condone, uphold, and support stupid. Does not make it right because a group of people are in concensus over moronic ideology.

How "L" that is a lot of ten dollar words in a one dollar sentence. I wish I could sit around with my dictionary and thesaurus and try and take sports fans to school with my knowledge of the proper use of words and the corect punctuation. It must feel good, I can't see any other reason why you would do it.

Qualify what you have said and then you may have your answer. Seems you have an issue with knowledgable individuals. Seth, if I am causing you mental anguish, then I make no apologies. I believe that you are allergic to knowledge and may need to seek intervention.
