2010 NFL Mock Draft: Full Cleveland Browns Mock By Browns Featured Columnists
In a very rare meeting of the minds online via Facebook and email, I have gathered the opinions of all the Bleacher Report Cleveland Browns featured columnists in order for us to collaborate and put together the first edition of our 2010 NFL Draft mock picks.
Yes you are reading this and I am writing in first person, which this journalist usually prefers not to do, but I cannot avoid it in this article.
Brian DiTullio, Samuel Ingro and I have agreed upon the following players as being our official and first complete Browns mock draft.
Some of these names you may agree with, some you may not, so please feel free to comment on these picks and suggest your opinions as to a different selection which could make it into the next updated version right before the draft in April.
1st Round, Pick No. 7 - Joe Haden, CB, Florida
Haden may have ran a slower 40-yard dash time (4.57) at the NFL Scouting Combine, but let's be honest here in saying that even though Eric Berry dominate, we all agreed that Haden would still be the choice even if both are available to be picked at No. 7.
Berry would be a nice addition, but Haden's skills will translate better in the Browns' secondary especially with the other AFC North teams upgraded their wide receiver positions.
Haden stands at 5' 10 1/2" and 193 pounds which is perfect for the Browns' vacant starting cornerback spot opposite of Eric Wright.
2nd Round, Pick No. 38 - Sergio Kindle, LB, Texas
The Browns need upgrades at linebacker, and with the signing of free agent Scott Fujita, they can now focus on getting more pass rush help on the outside.
Kindle is a beast (6'3" and 250 pounds) when it come to rushing the passer and even though the Browns look to retain Matt Roth, who can rush the passer as well, Kindle adds depth since behind both Roth and Kamerion Wimbley there isn't much but David Veinkune.
3rd round, Pick No. 72 - Darrell Stuckey, S, Kansas
This pick was solely argued for by Ingro, he said the Stuckey is a fantastic safety and his speed will help in the back of the defense since he ran a 4.49 in the 40-yard dash.
Standing at 5'11" and 205 pounds, some critics have said that Stuckey's a bit too small for playing safety, but he is just about the same stature as top-rated safety Berry.
3rd Round, Pick No. 93 - Montario Hardesty, RB, Tennessee
You may be thinking, why the Browns need to draft a running back this high when they have Jerome Harrison and untested James Davis? But, Hardesty is the perfect complement to both of them and his size (5'11" and 225 pounds) will help in getting short yards too.
Originally projected as a fifth round pick, Hardesty's performance at the combine was one of, if not the, most impressive out of all the other backs and that jumped his stock up a few rounds.
The Browns could never have enough backs on their roster and adding Hardesty helps improve depth in a running attack that looks to be used early and often in the 2010 season especially after how successful it was in the four-game winning streak in 2009.
4th Round, Pick No. 106 - Kyle Calloway, OT, Iowa
So the Browns just signed Tony Pashos as their new starting right tackle to a three-year deal, but depth at the offensive line is important and Calloway will be able to learn from both Joe Thomas and Pashos while seeing some situational work in certain formations too.
Calloway stands at 6'6" and 323 pounds.
5th Round, Pick No. 136 - Dennis Pitta, TE, BYU
The Browns found tight end Evan Moore in 2009, and he was able to see a lot of playing time in the last half of the year, but Pitta brings another dimension on offense.
Pitta is 6'4" and 245 pounds, with very soft hands and not only is he strong and can block in the running game, but he can create mismatches in the passing game once covered by linebackers or safeties.
Pitta has been mentioned in the same breath as Dallas Clark a few times and he has the talent to have a good career like Clark.
5th Round, Pick No. 139 - Jarrett Brown, QB, West Virginia
Browns became a hot commodity after throwing and participating at the NFL Combine, and he easily out-threw all over quarterbacks who were also throwing.
The biggest knock on Brown is that he is a development project in the NFL, since he was only a one-year starter at West Virginia .
Brown has the abilities and size (6'3" and 224 pounds) to be a good quarterback option in case Brady Quinn (or whoever) does not work out as the Browns' quarterback, and Brown looks similar to what Donovan McNabb looked like when entering the NFL.
5th Round, Pick No. 148 - Riley Cooper, WR, Florida
The Browns need a big receiver to possibly be developed into a No. 1 or No. 2 receiver in the near future and after watching Cooper compete at the NFL Combine, he may have what it takes to be a starter.
Cooper is 6'3" and 222 pounds, and even though he ran his 40 around the 4.5 second mark, he still has very long arms and can out-jump defenders in the back of an endzone.
5th Round, Pick No. 162 - Mike Johnson, OG, Alabama
Johnson has played guard for Alabama and he solidified their offensive line.
Standing at 6'5" and 312 pounds, the Browns need depth at the guard position and Johnson could fill this need immediately and possibly be the opening day starter in 2010.
6th Round, Pick No. 180 - Ed Wang, OT, Virginia Tech
Wang is a product of Olympian athletes and with some time, he could be a very could offensive lineman.
Wang stands at 6'4" and 314 pounds.
