Enough Already. Favre Should Just Stay Retired.

With reports of Brett Favre getting the "itch" to play, there are plenty of reasons why Favre should call it a career.

Didn't we just hear this song in April?

Brett Favre is apparently getting the "itch" to play football again.

Why?

Sure last year was a great swan song for you Brett, but this just can't continue to take place year after year.

Will he retire? Will he come back?

Call it a career already.  You own virtually every passing record in the NFL, including interceptions thrown.  What is really your motivation to come back?

A Superbowl?  Yeah, last year's not happening again.

Yes, Green Bay is a team on the rise, but not with you.  Despite his recent comments, this is the Aaron Rodgers show now.  By flirting with coming "out", not that you have officially went "in", of retirement, you slow the progress of a team that is trying to move forward without you.

Undoubtedly will you go down as one of the all-time greats.

I think its great all that you accomplished over your 17 year NFL career, but the game is changing.

No longer is the "Gunslinger" mentality going to make it in today's NFL.

Just ask Tony Romo how many playoff games he has won with that type of mentality.  Not to say that he isn't a good Quarterback.  I'm sure he'll do fine with that circus that is the Dallas Cowboys.

Just look at the recent Superbowl winners.

The Mannings, The Bradys, The Roethlisbergers, etc.

Those guys don't play with the reckless abandonment that you played with.

They play smart.  Make good reads and don't just toss it up for grabs.

I'm sure you'd do great at selling tickets, but you would be making a huge mistake to come back this late in the game.

I know that the last play of your career ended up with a mistake.

Just don't make this one, and call it a career.

  1. Even I agree the team needs to move on, even though I think Favre was better than Montana, who benefitted from a more advanced offense (they ran the same one, but by the time Favre did, teams had had a chance to figure it out for several years) and much more surrounding talent. (I know in your profile you say four rings, but Starr had five--was he better than Joe? No way! Was Dilfer better than Marino? No way!) I am tired of his stringing us along.
