2010 Senior Bowl: Tim Tebow's Performance Adds to His Plummeting NFL Draft Stock

Daniel WolfJan 30, 2010

Despite his continued positive attitude and confidence that he will succeed at the NFL level, Florida quarterback Tim Tebow has had a tough week that has drastically affected his NFL draft stock come April.

Everyone knows the Tebow story (and if you haven't then where have you been the last four years?) so this will not be a recap of his highly decorated college career.

During this week of practices leading up to the Senior Bowl, there has been so much buzz surrounding Tebow and his ability to be a quarterback in the NFL.

Maybe it was due to the pressure of all the various NFL coaches and scouts in attendance, but Tebow failed to impress all week long including during Saturday's Senior Bowl where he made 8-12 completions for 50 yards, with two fumbles one which he lost, and only running four times for four yards.

His rhythm seemed off early and he didn't appear to want to throw the ball deep at all.

Initially believed to by a lock in the first round with most mock drafts saying Tebow would land in Jacksonville with the Jaguars, now Tebow isn't even predicted to be picked until the third round in many mocks.

Scouts Inc. gave Tebow a grade of a D+ and wrote an extensive review on him saying:

"Tebow came to Mobile with a chance to prove he can be an effective NFL quarterback, but if he could go back in time he would likely choose not to come to the Senior Bowl."

"Tebow did show good arm strength, handled the media frenzy well and even played through a case of strep throat, but he also put all of his weaknesses on display in a setting that did nothing but magnify them."

"In a group of merely adequate quarterback prospects Tebow ranked near the bottom and we walk away from Mobile believing he might never be an NFL quarterback. He will have to be torn down and rebuilt from the ground up to have a chance , and we cannot remember one NFL quarterback who ever had to retool his entire game before finding success in the NFL. Teams that might have been considering Tebow in the late first or somewhere in the second round now have to re-evaluate."

"We have not spoken to a single talent evaluator who believes Tebow can develop into the kind of quarterback Mark Sanchez, Matthew Stafford or Joe Flacco is right now. The learning curve is just too steep in almost every area. We cannot find a way to give him any higher than a third-round grade, and even then we envision him as nothing more than a Wildcat or short-yardage quarterback who will maybe move to H-back. Overall, Senior Bowl week could not have gone worse from an on-the-field standpoint."

Tebow does have tremendous athletic ability and is not only a student of the game, but a weight room junkie too, and he will still find a home in the NFL, but the question is where and at what position.

Maybe Tebow should consider trying other positions when he is at the NFL Combine in Indianapolis in late February?
