These examples stand out today when we look at what's going on in the news.
The earthquake in Haiti impacted our hearts last week. We looked at the clips and pictures of how the earthquakes impacted that country with people trying to survive underneath the rubble or people being dead.

Haiti experienced food shortage long before this happened, so that country knows what hard times are all about. This does not make it any easier.
A printing company told a family friend that his service is no longer needed. He received his severance package after he was laid off from his job.
Those benefits will help him survive, but getting another job is going to be tough to get.
He is not the only one that has those problems. Most New Yorkers and New Jerseyans are losing jobs everyday.
With the cost of expenses getting higher, it's become an impossible task to pay bills such as rent, food, and other miscellaneous items.
This is where sports come to play. It's like a cure that helped us forget these issues during the course of the day.
The Yankees and the Jets gave us something to enjoy during their playoff run.
The 2009 World Series Champs brought themselves a World Series Championship by spending money on the best players, and it worked out like a charm for them. This shows how baseball is a mess with one team benefiting from a flawed baseball salary structure, but to their credit, the guys produced when it was time to.
At least the Jets understand they don't need to buy players to win a championship. They are winning with homegrown players through astute drafting. It's easy to respect them, unlike the Yankees.
Plus, that football team is likable unlike the baseball team that plays in the Bronx.
We can agree on something though. Anytime a team in our region can give us a nice playoff run, it's a great thing no matter how a team does it.
Winning brings fans together. There's nothing like seeing group of men working hard day-to-day and enjoying the reward that comes through playing a long season.
It's always fun to read the coverage of a winning team in the local newspapers.
There's nothing like seeing fans wearing the gear of a winner. During the baseball season, it was hard not to see everyone not wearing a Yankees cap or jacket.
It won't be long until we start seeing the same thing when it comes to the Jets.
Canyon of Heroes is the ultimate celebration for New York sports fans and the NY teams. No one does a better job of celebrating an accomplishment than the city of New York.
It's why the Giants wanted their celebration parade in New York rather than at East Rutherford when they won their championships.
That feeling itself is why people are passionate about their sports teams here.
It's hard for a team to win championships let alone win a game so anytime we see a team like the Yankees and the Jets do their thing, enjoy this moment.
For non-sports fans that fail to understand why we get passionate about sports, they should experience what may happen on Sunday if the Jets go to the Super Bowl.
It may not solve problems in this city and in this world, but at least, it gives some diversion. It's a good thing.
