Dolphins Bail On Fans and AFC Race

Michael SerraniaJan 4, 2010

Who was that at QB?  Henne? No. White? No. Why it was Tyler Thigpen from the Chiefs, formally of Coastal Carolina.  Now I can't emphasize that yesterday was wacky, because it was more than just that.  Yesterday was a microcosm of the entire season.  Come to think of it, it was more like every game since week 1.  There were two games where the Dolphins finished drives and pulverized the opponent-Week 4 v. the Bills and against Carolina.  The 'Phins are far from the glory that Marino brought with his arm in the 80s and 90s.  Watching the game yesterday and seeing the Dolphins down by 17 early, I knew there was still a chance...but even with Ben Roethlisberger and his 1 arm in the 4th quarter, he still beat the Dolphins with clock-killing pass completions.

As a fan, I feel that the Dolphins could have gone with Thigpen.  But, as a player personnel guy we saw the truth, that Pat White got an audition.  I believe that was the plan the whole time.  Grant it, Henne was hurt, but how come CBS did not have the details right there and then?  Why all of a sudden was there no Breaking News segment on my fantasy football website? (Never start guys on your own team.)

Seriously, it was an audition and I am believing that the fact that Pat White was out there to see what he had.  He was tough, and showed toughness and I believe that he can be an excellent role player on this team, but not a backup QB.

As fans, we knew what skills Thigpen possessed.  Despite the 2 Ints, well then playing with the scout team, you don't get to see everything as far as disguised coverages.

Ok.  So here are my predictions for what I believe can and will happen if all goes according to plan.

Miami should do the following:

Start with the line...again: Do whatever it takes to get Ndamokong Suh.  I know...sounds crazy giving up future picks, but come on he is the best lineman and player in the draft.  He knows how to pressure with his hand down.  Something that our current line does not do well.  I envision him playing outside on the 3-4 or right at DT.

Second, cut Wilson.  He was not consistent all year and didn't get a pick.

If you don't get Suh, take Taylor Mays.  Keep getting deeper and younger at Safety.

Third- Consider getting better at evaluating a replacement for Ronnie Brown.  If you have to sign and trade him that would seem like a good idea.  He's often hurt since his early days and I love the Wildcat, but the Dolphins are much more than a Wildcat team.

Next, trade Ginn!  Trade him for a 6th rounder.  I am sure there are receivers in the 6th round better than he.

Lastly, please address the possibility of getting a viable backup to Henne.  If Pennington wants out, let him go to Oakland or Denver.  Fine.  Get a good backup and save the trouble of having to get someone ready.

Enjoy fellow Phins Fans!
