Kerry is about to Break 100k Followers

I’ve been noticing that Kerry Rhodes followers have been increasing by “Shaq’esque” numbers and was wondering what could have triggered this suddenly.  My first thought was that he must have gone on television and announced his twitter account.

My other thought was that he landed on some kind of list, and I confirmed that both making the Twitter Suggested list and calling out to his followers on CNN was the reason.    Sam Taggart from Vaynermedia wrote an article “Social Media and Sports:  How to Make the Twitter’s Suggested User List” and announced that Kerry recently made the list:

A couple of weeks ago, Kerry Rhodes, VaynerMedia’s very own client, made the list. Since then, his followers have more than quadrupled to just under 100,000 total. Kerry made the list because of two reasons that I can think of. First, he is a talented, rising star in the NFL who is gaining more and more attention from the mainstream. But more importantly, he is a great Twitter user. The truth is, they go hand in hand. A few weeks ago, Kerry was on CNN asking his followers for any questions they had about health and fitness. This would never have happened had Kerry not been both a great NFL player and a great Twitter user with passionate followers.

As you can see from the graph below, Kerry had been averaging 200-300 new followers a day and then on October 3rd he made the Twitter Suggested User list and exploded.  He started averaging +2,9200 users per day.  The numbers vary, for example he added +3,773 yesterday.  Kerry is about to break 100,000 followers which is a great feat for Twitter.
