It may sound like a long ways away to the 2010 NFL draft.
Six months.
Only half a year, right?
Well, I don't really care. Mock drafts are fun to do, and I'm incredibly bored at the moment.
I've been going through my fair share of thoughts on who will go where.
These are my thoughts typed on individual slides.
The order of the picks are based on who I think will win the most games based on the teams current records.
NOTE: I do not have Sam Bradford declaring after this season. As a result, he will not be drafted.
1. St. Louis Rams- Jake Locker, QB, Washington
St. Louis is in big need of a quarterback who can lead the franchise. Marc Bulger is not that at all. Jake Locker is a quick and athletic quarterback. He might not be the best choice at No. 1 overall, but he is certainly better than any of the other quarterbacks that are available.
2. Tampa Bay Buccaneers- Ndamukong Suh, DT, Nebraska
Tampa Bay's defensive line is one of the worst in the league. They have a glaring hole at defensive tackle that needs to be fixed. Ndamukong Suh is a beast in every sense of the word. He will be a fantastic fit in the Buccaneers defense.
3. Kansas City Chiefs- Russell Okung, OT, Oklahoma State
The Kansas City Chiefs have finally won a game. With that said, there is a good chance they will only win one or two more all year. The Chiefs offensive line is pretty terrible. Matt Cassell has been sacked over 15 times in just five starts. Russell Okung is a big tackle that will make a difference in the run and pass game.
4. Cleveland Browns- Jimmy Clausen, QB, Notre Dame
Brady Quinn will be on a different team next year, of course. Derek Anderson is clearly not the solution. Eric Mangini (If still the coach) will look to go for another big name quarterback in the draft like Jimmy Clausen. Cleveland fans better pray that Jimmy is the answer to the many problems.
5. Detroit Lions- Gerald McCoy, DT, Oklahoma
Detroit did manage to win a game this year, but since then they have done absolutely nothing at all. They have a big problem at defensive tackle ever since trading away Pro-bowler Shawn Rogers to the Cleveland Browns. Can Gerald McCoy be a big factor to this defense? My gut tells me he can.
6. Tennessee Titans- Joe Haden, CB, Florida
Despite a terrible 0-6 record, I still see the Titans somehow winning four to five games this year. They have a few easy games coming up this season. They rank dead last against the pass this year. They do have a pretty solid secondary, so it's puzzling why they are so terrible. Joe Haden will look to replace Nick Harper after he becomes a free-agent this off-season.
7. Buffalo Bills- Eric Berry, S, Tennessee
The Bills lost to a team that completed only two passes? Are you kidding me? What does that say about your overall team? Some say the Bills should look for a new quarterback. No, I just don't see them dishing out top 10 money on a quarterback. Eric Berry is a tremendous safety that the Bills could really use after trading away Ko Simpson.
8. Washington Redskins- Trent Williams, OT, Oklahoma
Washington is a very disappointing team, obviously. They have lost games to the Lions and the Chiefs. That is pathetic! The Redskins offensive line is terrible, and needs a lot of help. I can see them going for a big offensive tackle in the first round and a QB in the second.
9. Oakland Raiders- Charles Brown, OT, USC
The Raiders have won a couple of games. So they will be in the playoffs, right? According to Richard Seymour, they will be. Oakland has many needs that they need to fill. I don't see them going after a defensive lineman this early. Instead, I can see them taking a local offensive tackle like Charles Brown out of the University of Southern California.
10. Seattle Seahawks- Jahvid Best, RB, California
Seattle started off the season off well, but has since then taking a big fall to 2-4. They are now in third place in the NFC West. The Seahawks could use a complement running back to Julius Jones next year. Jahvid Best might be a reach here, but in the end he will be well worth it.
11. San Francisco 49ers from Carolina- Taylor Mays, S, USC
San Francisco has probably not liked the fact that Carolina has won two games in a row. The 49ers pass defense has gotten better, but they could use a young safety like Taylor Mays to anchor the secondary. Mays will slip a bit in the draft, but not out of the top-15.
12. Jacksonville Jaguars- Tim Tebow, QB, Florida
The Jaguars have been reported as saying that they would definitely consider taking Florida Gators quarterback Tim Tebow if he was available. With Tebow on the board, I see the Jags living up to their word and selecting Tebow. He might not start right away, but he can still make a difference if Jacksonville runs the wildcat.
13. Miami Dolphins- Rolando McClain, ILB, Alabama
The Dolphins have done a good job rebounding from their unexpected 0-3 start. They are now 2-3. Miami could use an improvement at middle linebacker. Akin Ayodele is not that impressive, and should be a back-up on the Dolphins roster.
14. Houston Texans- Ras-I Dowling, CB, Virginia
The Texans have beaten a few good teams this year. They are at a 3-3 record currently. Houston's secondary could use some help. Dunta Robinson might be gone next year. He has been unhappy in Houston for quite some time now. Ras-I dowling would be a solid pick for the Texans at No. 14.
15. Green Bay Packers- Von Miller, OLB/DE, Texas A&M
Green Bay has started off pretty good, but mark my words, they will fizzle towards the end of the season. Aaron Kampman is in his contract year. He has really struggled in the Packers new 3-4 system. Von Miller will look to be his replacement next season.
16. San Diego Chargers- Brandon LaFell, WR, LSU
Chris Chambers becomes a free-agent after this season is over. I can almost guarantee that the Chargers let him sign with another team. Brandon LaFell is probably the best overall receiver in this year's draft. San Diego will make the reach for him.
17. Baltimore Ravens- Jermaine Gresham, TE, Oklahoma
The Baltimore Ravens offense has vastly improved since last year. They could get even better if their offense had an explosive play-making tight end like Jermaine Gresham. He has missed his entire senior year, but he will be ready to go by the time the combine rolls around.
18. San Francisco 49'ers- Bryan Bulaga, OT, Iowa
The second of the 49'ers two first-round picks will be used on a big name offensive tackle like Bryan Bulaga. Tony Pashos is clearly not the answer for San Francisco at either one of the tackle spots. Bulaga will be a solid pick this late in the draft for San Fran.
19. New York Jets- Arthur Jones, DE/DT, Syracuse
The Jets have a big need for a big 3-4 defensive end. Arthur Jones is a 6'3", 300-lb beast from Syracuse. He has quickly risen up the draft boards. New York should jump all over Jones with this pick.
20. Dallas Cowboys- Bruce Campbell, OT, Maryland
The Cowboys offensive line is getting older and they could use a solid young offensive tackle to anchor the line. Flozell Adams could retire by seasons end, also. Bruce Campbell is the best option available here for the Cowboys. They should take him.
21. Denver Broncos from Chicago Bears- Brandon Spikes, ILB, Florida
The Denver Broncos are off to an incredible 6-0 start. Their defense was expected to be terrible this year. It has been completely the opposite from that perception. Brandon Spikes would be a steal here, and I see the Broncos pulling the trigger to get him.
22. Arizona Cardinals- Carlos Dunlap, DE/OLB, Florida
The Arizona Cardinals have one of the worst run games in the league due to their poor offensive line. Unfortunately, there are no offensive lineman worth taking at this point. I see the Cardinals going after a rush-linebacker like Carlos Dunlap out of Florida.
23. Cincinnati Bengals- C.J. Spiller, RB, Clemson
The Bengals have one of the best running games in the league because of Cedric Benson. But with the recent trend in the league being the 1-2 punch at running back, I see the Bengals going after a play-maker like C.J. Spiller with their first pick.
24. Philadelphia Eagles- Travis Lewis, OLB, Oklahoma
The Eagles starting outside linebackers Chris Gokong and Akeem Jordan both become free agents at the end of this season. It's unlikely that the Eagles will be able to keep both players on the roster. Travis Lewis is a great outside linebacker that will be able to come in and replace one of them.
25. Pittsburgh Steelers- Morgan Burnett, FS, Georgia Tech
Tyrone Carter and Ryan Clark did decent jobs in filling in for Troy Polamalu while he was hurt. With that said, they are both free-agents after the year is over. Morgan Burnett is the best safety available, and a good one at that.
26. New England Patriots- Dez Bryant, WR, Oklahoma State
The Patriots parted with Joey Galloway because of the horrible season he was having. New England needs to focus on getting another playmaker for Tom Brady to throw to. Dez Bryant is a very good receiver despite not playing in several games for Oklahoma State this season.
27. Atlanta Falcons- Greg Hardy, DE, Ole Miss
Jamaal Anderson hasn't worked out ever since being drafted in the first round in 2007. The Falcons should concentrate on getting a better player to start at defensive end. Greg Hardy will have the chance to reunite with his former teammate, Peria Jerry.
28. New York Giants- Brian Price, DT, UCLA
Barry Cofield and Fred Robbins will both be free agents in March. One of them is likely to be gone, maybe even both. The Giants should look for a solid defensive tackle like Brian Price to replace them.
29. New Orleans Saints- Sean Weatherspoon, OLB, Missouri
The Saints have a much improved defense ever since Gregg Williams came in as defensive coordinator. New Orleans linebackers are fairly weak, though. Sean Weatherspoon could start from day one for the Saints next to Jonathan Vilma.
30. Indianapolis Colts- Boo Robinson, DT, Wake Forest
The Colts have had defensive tackle problems for several years now. It's finally time for them to solve it in the draft. Ed Johnson was recently cut due to his lack of performing well on the field. Boo Robinson is flying up the draft boards as of late.
31. Seattle Seahawks from Denver- Ryan Mallett, QB, Arkansas
Matt Hasselbeck has had a decent season, but he is nearing the end of his career with all of his injuries. Ryan Mallett has had a great season this year for the Razorbacks. Ryan Mallett would be a good choice for the Seahawks with their second pick.
32. Minnesota Vikings- Derrick Morgan, DE, Georgia Tech
Derrick Morgan has had an incredible junior season with Georgia Tech. Through seven games, Morgan has 32 tackles and 7 sacks. He might not be the ideal choice for the Vikings, but he would be a great replacement for Ray Edwards if he leaves for free-agency.
