2018 NFL Mock Draft Round 2: Day 2 Predictions After Round 1 Results

The first round of the NFL draft was characterized by four quarterbacks selected in the top 10 and a running back picked second overall for the first time since Reggie Bush went to the New Orleans Saints in 2006.

The drama won't be as intense on day two, when teams make their second and third-round selections, but it should still be interesting to see where some notable names land.

Here's a look at a draft tracker, a second-round mock draft and four predictions for Friday night.

Day 2 Predictions

Miami Dolphins Fill Need, Pick Tight End

The Miami Dolphins released starting tight end Julius Thomas in the offseason, leaving a gap at the position. The team could use a solid, athletic pass-catching tight end who can make big plays.

Penn State tight end Mike Gesicki fits that bill, as he caught 57 passes for 563 yards and nine touchdowns last season. He was also one of the standout players at the NFL Scouting Combine, finishing with a SPARQ-x score in the 97th percentile, per playerprofiler.com.

A three-sport star in high school (volleyball, football, basketball), it wasn't uncommon to see Gesicki hurdle people or make one-handed catches.

Gesicki could start for the Dolphins right away and form a promising pass-catching quartet with DeVante Parker, Danny Amendola and Kenny Stills.

Cleveland Browns Double-Dip on the Offensive Line

The Cleveland Browns picked their quarterback of the future when they selected Baker Mayfield with the first overall selection, but with future Hall of Fame offensive tackle Joe Thomas retiring in the offseason, the team needs to find some help in the trenches.

It's possible that Cleveland decides to pick two offensive linemen in the second round, especially given the fact they have three picks. Texas offensive tackle Connor Williams, who was picked by many to be a first-round selection during the predraft process, could be the first player off the board on day two.

Also keep an eye out for Brian O'Neill of Pittsburgh or Orlando Brown of Oklahoma, players Drafttek ranked in the top 60 overall.

New York Giants Grab a Starting Offensive Guard

We could see offensive linemen flying off the board early in the second round, especially with the New York Giants likely looking for some blocking help for new running back Saquon Barkley, who was taken with the second overall pick.

UTEP offensive guard Will Hernandez, who has skyrocketed up draft boards in the past few months, fell out of the first round after numerous pundits projected him to land in the top 32.

Big Blue may run to the podium for Hernandez, who Lance Zierlein of NFL.com called "a plus run-blocker with the anchor and footwork to handle himself in pass protection as well." Zierlein also gave him a 6.12 grade (anyone from 6.00 to 6.49 is considered an "instant starter").

Hernandez could slide into the starting right guard slot immediately.

Indianapolis Colts Take Edge-Rusher

Boston College edge-rusher Harold Landry is high on many analysts' big boards. Notably, Landry sits seventh on Josh Norris of Rotoworld's big board and 15th on Matt Miller of Bleacher Report's list.

The Colts had just 25 sacks as a team last year, which ranked second-worst in the NFL. They also need someone to improve a pass defense that ranked dead last in passing yards per attempt allowed.

Landry, who accrued 16.5 sacks during the 2016 season (he had five in an injury-marred 2017 campaign) could be the right fit in Indianapolis. Lance Zierlein noted that Landry is best with "his hand in the dirt," meaning he's better suited for a 4-3 defense.

The Colts just so happen to be transitioning to a 4-3 defense under new head coach Frank Reich and defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus. Landry could end up being a defensive cornerstone in the Colts' new era.
