Before Rojas broke through, the game's only two runs came in the third inning.
The Cubs got on the board behind Kris Bryant's first home run of the season, and the Marlins knotted the proceedings at one in the bottom half of the frame when Starlin Castro drove in Lewis Brinson with a single.
All told, the sides used 14 pitchers on a night when 518 pitches were thrown.
Odrisamer Despaigne, who was listed as the Marlins' probable starter for Saturday's tilt, picked up the win after he entered in the top of the 17th and retired the side in order.
It looks like Miami will now have to make alternate plans as it aims to move to 2-1 on the 2018 season with Yu Darvish scheduled to make his first start for the Cubs on Saturday night in South Florida.
