LeGarrette Blount Hopes Jonathan Martin Gets Help After Alleged Instagram Threat

Timothy RappFeb 25, 2018

Philadelphia Eagles running back LeGarrette Blount said he hopes former NFL offensive lineman Jonathan Martin gets the help he needs after Martin's troubling Instagram post Friday, according to TMZ Sports.

Blount also called the post "disturbing."

Martin posted a picture of a shotgun with the message, "When you're a bully victim & and coward, your options are suicide, or revenge" and tagged former Miami Dolphins teammates Richie Incognito and Mike Pouncey in the post. He also put hashtags for the Dolphins and his high school, Harvard-Westlake.

He was detained by police for questioning Friday and released into a mental health facility.

"The investigation is continuing, but rest assured we believe there is no threat to any school in the L.A. area," the LAPD said in a statement Friday, per Kyle Bonagura of ESPN.com.

Harvard-Westlake closed Friday for cautionary reasons due to Martin's post.

The other two men tagged in the picture, James Dunleavy—the son of former NBA head coach Mike Dunleavy—and T.J. Taylor, attended Harvard-Westlake at the same time as Martin and played on the basketball team.

In 2013, Martin, 28, accused Incognito and Pouncey of bullying him when they were teammates with the Dolphins. An NFL investigation found that the two linemen, along with lineman John Jerry, created a "hostile working environment for Martin," per Bonagura. Incognito was suspended eight games by the league for his role in the bullying.

Martin, who retired before the 2015 season, said he suffered from depression and suicidal thoughts during his playing career.

"Your job leads you to attempt to kill yourself on multiple occasions," he wrote in August 2015, per David Newton of ESPN.com. "Your self-perceived social inadequacy dominates your every waking moment and thought. You're petrified of going to work.

"You either sleep 12, 14, 16 hours a day when you can, or not at all. You drink too much, smoke weed constantly, have trouble focusing on doing your job, playing the sport that you grew up obsessed with."
