MLB Rumors: Martin Prado Reportedly Drawing Interest from Yankees, Red Sox
The Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees are shopping for help at third base in their heated American League East race and have reportedly called the Miami Marlins.
Bob Nightengale of USA Today reported Wednesday the two rivals "informed" Miami they are interested in Martin Prado at the hot corner. Nightengale also noted the Bronx Bombers have their eye on Miami first baseman Justin Bour.
It comes as no surprise the Red Sox and Yankees are interested in bolstering the position.

According to Nightengale, Boston has used six third basemen this year, and they have combined to hit .200. Pablo Sandoval is on the disabled list and is slashing just .212/.269/.354 with four home runs and 12 RBI in 32 games. He has been a major disappointment for the Red Sox after two All-Star appearances and three World Series titles in his seven seasons with the San Francisco Giants.
In New York, Chase Headley is hitting just .256 with four home runs at third, and highly regarded prospect Gleyber Torres underwent season-ending Tommy John surgery on his elbow.
While Prado is just returning from a six-week stay on the disabled list because of a hamstring strain, he is slashing .277/.299/.398 in 21 games. He appeared in 153 contests for Miami last year and hit an impressive .305/.359/.417 and can serve as a veteran leader in the clubhouse for either side as the stretch run approaches.
He is also a solid defender and is responsible for 43 total defensive runs saved above average in his career at third base, per FanGraphs.
Boston is one game ahead of New York in the AL East, and Prado would be a boost for either team should they ultimately land him.
