2017 NFL Draft: Complete 1st-Round Order, Analysis of Top Prospects

Moe MotonApr 6, 2017

Analysts, writers and fans have simulated thousands of NFL mock drafts over the past few months, and we're rapidly approaching the real deal on April 27 in Philadelphia.

As team executives turn their attention away from free agency and toward a new draft class, the last few schools will host pro days for one final look at their prospects this week.

Most notably, Baylor and LSU held workouts on Wednesday. Running back Leonard Fournette discussed his weight and dropping 12 pounds since the NFL Scouting Combine with NFL Network's Mike Mayock:

San Francisco 49ers Continue to Build Bully on Defense

Adams' draft stock slipped when teams looked at his 4.56 40-time at the combine, but he brings enough on-field talent to compensate for poor straight-line speed. Don't expect Michigan's Jabrill Peppers to surpass Adams as the No. 1 safety in this draft class.

The San Francisco 49ers signed Brian Hoyer as the placeholder at quarterback. Head coach Kyle Shanahan opted not to tip his hand on the team's plans at the position going forward, per CSN Bay Area reporter Matt Maiocco.

Hoyer filled in adequately with the Chicago Bears in the previous season. Before suffering a broken forearm, he threw for 1,445 yards, six touchdowns and zero interceptions while completing 67 percent of his passes in six games.

With a less-than-stellar quarterback group, the 49ers should go with a quality talent at No. 2. On paper, the team has a young talented front seven with linebacker NaVorro Bowman as the defensive leader. The decision to add Adams would further uniform the defense with physical playmakers on the back end.

San Francisco may not score a lot of points in the upcoming season without a top-tier quarterback or receivers, but the front office can build a defense that keeps the scores close.

New York Jets Rebuild Offense with Leonard Fournette

New York Jets general manager Mike Maccagnan decided to gut the roster and start a rebuild. The offensive turnover included wide receiver Brandon Marshall, quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick, center Nick Mangold, guard Breno Giacomini and tackle Ryan Clady.

Clearly, the Jets need a new offensive identity while attempting to tap their next starting quarterback. Signal-caller Geno Smith signed with the team's in-house co-habitant, the New York Giants, which leaves Bryce Petty and Christian Hackenberg to compete for the starting spot under center.

The front office could help either quarterback with a bruising running back who will force opponents to load the box with an extra defender. As a result, receivers will see more one-on-one opportunities downfield.

A Matt Forte-Fournette combination at running back provides a blend of power running with a top receiving back in the league. It's the perfect approach for a team that doesn't have a franchise quarterback in place.

Cleveland Browns Select First Quarterback

The Cleveland Browns will likely choose edge-rusher Myles Garrett to bolster their pass rush with the No. 1 overall selection. The No. 12 pick would be an appropriate spot to address the quarterback position with the best of three B-minus and C-plus players.

The Browns accumulated promising talent at wide receiver in the previous draft. Despite missing six games due to injury, Corey Coleman showed flashes as a solid perimeter asset.

According to ESPN reporter Tony Grossi, head coach Hue Jackson hopes to see the team's 2016 first-round pick lead his position group in the upcoming season.

Of course, the team may welcome wideout Josh Gordon back into the fold, which would shift Coleman into the slot position with Kenny Britt opposite Gordon on the outside, per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport:

As a two-year starter with big-game experience, quarterback Deshaun Watson would be an ideal pick for the Browns at No. 12 over Mitchell Trubisky. The Clemson prospect helped his stock during the combine, and he'll step into a situation with quality receivers and two capable running backs in place.
