Adrian Peterson, Jameis Winston Working Out with QB Coach George Whitfield

Adam WellsMar 29, 2017

Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Jameis Winston has been working with quarterback coach George Whitfield for two years, but the pair added a new ingredient to the mix this offseason with free-agent running back Adrian Peterson

Whitfield posted a picture to Instagram featuring Winston, Peterson and strength and conditioning coach Tim Grover:

Peterson continues to look for a new team after the Minnesota Vikings declined his contract option for next season in February.

Buccaneers head coach Dirk Koetter caught wind of the photo featuring Winston and Peterson, addressing it during an appearance at the NFL owners meetings.

"I've seen (Peterson) many times -- one of the best running backs to ever play," Koetter said, via ESPN's Jenna Laine"I'm anxious to talk to Jameis and ask him about how his workouts went."

The Buccaneers still have Doug Martin under contract for the next four seasons, though his four-game suspension for performance-enhancing drugs did void his $7 million guaranteed salary in 2017, per Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times.

That gives the Bucs the right to part ways with Martin at any time without incurring a salary cap penalty. Martin is coming off a disastrous 2016 in which he only played in eight games and averaged 2.9 yards per attempt. He served one game of his suspension at the end of last season and will sit out the first three games of 2017.

Peterson, who previously listed the Buccaneers among his preferred destinations if he parted ways with Minnesota, played in three games last season due to torn meniscus in his knee.

Having just turned 32, Peterson is old by NFL running back standards. He is just one year removed from leading the league in rushing yards. If he's healthy, there's no reason to bet against his getting back to that level in 2017 wherever he ends up playing.
