Steelers' Mike Mitchell Hilariously Pleads Case to Refs to Try to Avoid Penalty
Football players often try to plead their case to referees when they get penalized, but viewers rarely get a clear look at what goes on during those conversations.
During Sunday's regular-season finale against the Cleveland Browns, microphones picked up Pittsburgh Steelers safety Mike Mitchell's pleading, and it was awesome.
As Cleveland closed in on the goal line in overtime, Mitchell and Browns wideout Corey Coleman both had their hands on each other's facemask. Mitchell, however, was the only one who got flagged for it, even though he tried to make his case to the refs.
The penalty gave Cleveland a 1st-and-goal at the 2-yard line, but Pittsburgh's defense stood strong and forced a field-goal attempt. On the ensuing drive, the Steelers scored a touchdown to win the game, 27-24.
