T.J. Lang Fined for Hit on Cornelius Washington: Latest Details and Comments
The NFL has fined Green Bay Packers offensive lineman T.J. Lang for an illegal block during the team's Week 15 win over the Chicago Bears.
According to ESPN.com's Rob Demovsky, Lang was docked $24,309 for a blindside block on Bears defensive end Cornelius Washington.
Lang was not called for a penalty on the play, which occurred late in the second quarter.
Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers was scrambling out of the pocket when Washington was charging toward him and looking to prevent a big play from happening. Lang was left without anyone to block and noticed Chicago's defender making a beeline toward Rodgers before laying him out.
Washington finished the game for the Bears but is listed as questionable for Week 16 with a back injury.
The 29-year-old Lang has started every game he has appeared in for the Packers since 2011 and ranks as the No. 22 offensive lineman in the NFL, per Sam Monson of Pro Football Focus:
"Lang has matched (Bears' Josh) Sitton, allowing just five total QB pressures in nine games, and has yet to allow either a sack or hit on Aaron Rodgers. His run blocking hasn’t been as good as it was a year ago, though, which is a trend with most of the Packers’ line, and part of the reason the team is so quick to abandon the run game.
"
The NFL previously fined Lang twice during the 2015 season for incidents with Seattle Seahawks linebacker K.J. Wright and Dallas Cowboys defensive tackle Nick Hayden during playoff games.
