New York Giants vs. Philadelphia Eagles Betting Odds, Analysis, NFL Pick

OddsShark.comDec 20, 2016

The New York Giants can clinch a playoff spot with a win Thursday night when they take on the plummeting Philadelphia Eagles in a Week 16 clash at Lincoln Financial Field.

The 10-4 Giants have posted wins in eight of their past nine games, with against-the-spread victories in seven of those contests. However, New York fell, 24-14, to the Pittsburgh Steelers as a 6.5-point underdog in its last road game.

The Eagles tumbled to 5-9 with last week's 27-26 loss to the Baltimore Ravens as five-point road underdogs. That defeat extends Philadelphia's current SU slide to five games, including SU and ATS losses in each of its past two home dates.

Point spread: The Giants opened as three-point favorites; the total was 42 early in the week, according to sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark. (Line updates and matchup report)

NFL pick, via OddsShark computer: 24.1-18.0 Giants (NFL picks on every game)

Why the Giants can cover the spread

The Giants are unbeaten SU and ATS in their past three games as road favorites, including a narrow 20-19 season-opening win over the Dallas Cowboys and a 27-13 beatdown of the Cleveland Browns four weeks ago.

New York has also performed well on the road following a lengthy homestand. The Giants are 9-2 SU and ATS in their past 11 road dates after consecutive games at MetLife Stadium.

The Giants' stout defense has also shut down opposing offenses during their current hot streak. New York has surrendered just 15.8 points per game over its past nine outings and just 11.5 points per game in its past two outright road victories.

Why the Eagles can cover the spread

Following a three-game point-scoring drought, the Eagles have shown signs of regaining their scoring touch. Philadelphia came within a missed two-point conversion of knocking off Baltimore last week and has averaged 24 points per game over its past two games.

The Eagles have dominated possession in each of their past two outings, controlling the football for over 36 minutes, both in Baltimore and in a heartbreaking 27-22 loss to the Washington Redskins two weeks ago.

Philadelphia has also played some stingy defense at home this season. The Eagles have held opponents to 15 or fewer points on four occasions, including outright wins as home underdogs over the Steelers and the Minnesota Vikings.

Smart pick

Philadelphia has taken four of the last five from the Giants, both SU and ATS, but is winless in its last four games against divisional opponents. And the Giants have been dominant when pegged as road favorites of three or fewer points, going 6-1-1 ATS in their past eight such outings.

Look for the Giants to clinch a playoff spot and remain in the thick of the odds to win Super Bowl 51 with a narrow SU and ATS win Thursday night.

Betting trends

The Giants are 1-4 SU and ATS in their last five games against the Eagles.

The total has gone over in three of the Giants' last four games against the Eagles.

The Eagles are 2-6 ATS in their last eight games in Week 16.
