Fitzgerald Tops All Receivers in Catches Through 1st 200 Career Games

Bleacher Report MilestonesDec 20, 2016

Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald snagged seven passes in Sunday's game against the New Orleans Saints, giving him the most receptions (1,116) through 200 career games in NFL history, per NFL Communications.

Jerry Rice held the record with 1,115 receptions over his first 200 contests. Anquan Boldin also reached 200 career games Sunday, totaling 1,067 catches over the span to rank fourth on the all-time list. Boldin sits behind just Fitzgerald, Rice and Marvin Harrison (1,102).

Arizona entered 2016 as a Super Bowl contender following its loss to the Carolina Panthers in the NFC Championship Game last season, but things haven't gone as planned. Despite Fitzgerald's seven-grab effort Sunday, the Cardinals dropped their fourth game in the last five, falling 48-41 to the Saints.

The Cardinals now own a 5-8-1 record this season and have been officially eliminated from playoff contention.

The 13th-year receiver out of Pittsburgh needs just two more catches to amass 100 for a second straight season. It would be just the fourth time in his career Fitzgerald has reached the total, doing so in 2005 and 2007 before finally topping the century mark again last season. Fitzgerald needs just 12 more catches in the final two weeks to best the franchise-record 109 he posted last season, per the team's official site.

However, the veteran wideout told Westwood One's Jim Gray (h/t the team's official site) he's "uncertain" whether he will play in 2017. Fitzgerald may weigh the state of the team's potential next season before making his decision, as the lack of a Super Bowl remains the biggest blemish on his career.

Even if he decides to call it quits without hoisting the Lombardi Trophy, Fitzgerald is almost certainly bound for Canton, Ohio, and an induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
