Philadelphia Eagles vs. Baltimore Ravens: Betting Odds, Analysis, NFL Pick
The Baltimore Ravens (7-6) hope to stay alive in the AFC playoff race when they host the Philadelphia Eagles (5-8) as solid home favorites.
The Ravens are coming off a 30-23 loss to the New England Patriots as six-point road underdogs and will need to cover a similar point spread as chalk this time to please their backers and fans in their home finale.
Point spread: The Ravens opened as 5.5-point favorites. The total was 41.5 early in the week.
OddsShark computer pick: Ravens 33.0, Eagles 12.2 (NFL picks on every game)
Why the Eagles can cover the spread
The Eagles have been one of the hardest teams to figure out this season with rookie quarterback Carson Wentz and first-year head coach Doug Pederson. After starting the year at 3-0, Philly has dropped eight of 10 to fall to the bottom of the NFC East standings.
Regardless, the Eagles are a gutsy squad that have gone 4-1 against the spread in the past five meetings with Baltimore. They are also an impressive 10-2 straight up and ATS in their last 12 games versus AFC opponents, including 2-1 SU and ATS in three games so far this year.
Why the Ravens can cover the spread
The Ravens are riding a four-game home winning streak both SU and ATS, and there is certainly no shame in losing to the Patriots on the road last Monday night.
Even though that setback hurt Baltimore's postseason chances, the team still has a solid shot to get into the field by winning out and also owns one of the best defensive units in the league.
The Ravens simply cannot afford to lose this game and will make sure it's not close.
Smart pick
Opposing defenses have seemed to figure out Wentz, who has not been the same player in the second half of the season. He has thrown seven of his 12 interceptions in the last four games, all of which have resulted in losses.
Baltimore will have a much easier time stopping him than future Hall of Famer Tom Brady, who passed for 406 yards and is among the front-runners for NFL MVP honors despite missing the first four games due to a suspension.
Wentz is not winning Offensive Rookie of the Year, and the Ravens are not dropping this home game as they win and cover easily in a blowout.
