Week 14 NFL Picks: Vegas Odds, Spread Advice and Predictions

Steve SilvermanDec 8, 2016

It may not be a good idea for NFL teams to challenge the Pittsburgh Steelers in the final four weeks of the season, and it may not be a good idea for handicappers to go against the Steelers when they decide to place wagers.

The Steelers have the best set of offensive weapons in the league in Ben Roethlisberger, Le'Veon Bell and Antonio Brown, and they are not going to let up, even if they face adverse weather conditions.

The Steelers are in Buffalo Sunday to play the Bills, and while the Weather Channel reports that it is likely to be snowing during the game, that will only make it more difficult for the Buffalo defense to slow down that trio.

The Steelers have won two games in a row after a four-game losing streak, and they are getting hot at the right time of year. They will have games against division opponents in the final three weeks of the season, and if the Steelers play to their ability, they should win all of them.

Buffalo is a team that has proved it can play well in spurts, but once it loses its momentum, it has a hard time getting it back.

In last week's loss to the Oakland Raiders, the Bills built a 24-9 lead before the Raiders scored the last 29 points and emerged with a 38-24 triumph.

The Raiders come close to matching the Steelers' talent at the skill positions, but they are not quite at that level. As a result, we like the Steelers' chances to produce against the 12th-ranked Buffalo defense.

Pittsburgh opened as a 1.5-point favorite over the Bills, according to OddsShark. While the Bills have enough talent to keep this game fairly close with LeSean McCoy, Sammy Watkins and Tyrod Taylor, the Steelers will assert themselves in the second half and cruise to a victory of seven points or more.

Cincinnati Bengals at Cleveland Browns

It has been a season of great pain in Cleveland, as the Browns have yet to win a game in 12 tries this year.

They have fallen apart regularly in the second half after playing opponents in a fairly close manner, and that indicates a lack of depth, as well as insufficient talent.

The Browns have perhaps their last "best" chance to come up with a victory when they host the Cincinnati Bengals Sunday.

The Bengals have had their own issues this season and have stumbled to a 4-7-1 record. While they ended their four-game winless streak with a 32-14 win over the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 13, the Bengals have rarely displayed consistency this season.

They have lost five straight road games since beating the New York Jets by a point on the road in Week 1, and they have key injury problems (most notably A.J. Green's hamstring) that will keep them from playing their best game here.

Additionally, ESPN.com's Dan Graziano reported Robert Griffin III will get the start at quarterback for the Browns, barring a setback in practice the rest of the week.

Griffin broke a bone in his shoulder in Week 1 and has not played since. While there are many questions about his long-term viability as an NFL quarterback, he represents an improvement over Cody Kessler, Josh McCown and Charlie Whitehurst.

The Bengals opened as four-point favorites in this game, according to OddsShark, and they will get the Browns' best effort. The Bengals should play to their usual level on the road, and if that happens, this game could be decided by a late field goal.

We like the Browns to get the cover and their first win of the season against their in-state rivals.

Baltimore Ravens at New England Patriots

The Baltimore Ravens have been troubled by inconsistency this season, and that's why they have a 7-5 record and find themselves in a fight for the AFC North title with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The Ravens have gotten the job done on defense with the No. 1-ranked unit in yards allowed, and if they had played just a little bit better on offense, they would likely have an 8-4 or 9-3 record heading into the final four games of the season.

The New England Patriots have no such problems. They have reeled off a 10-2 record and find a way to win nearly every week. The Patriots have their own issues on defense, where they regularly struggle to get to opposing quarterbacks. Nobody has more than 4.0 sacks (Trey Flowers), and that's simply not good enough.

Matt Patricia's defense has played fairly well overall and ranks ninth in yards allowed, but the Patriots no longer have Chandler Jones (Arizona Cardinals) or Jamie Collins (Cleveland Browns), and that has manifested itself in an ordinary pass rush.

Look for Joe Flacco to take advantage of this. The Ravens quarterback still throws one of the best deep balls in the league, and he should be able to to have the time to set his feet and throw long against New England.

The Patriots opened as nine-point favorites at home in this Monday night game, according to OddsShark, and they are 9-3 against the spread this season.

However, the Ravens need this game badly and will keep it close. If the Patriots get the home victory, the difference should be six points or less, with the Ravens getting the cover.
