Former Cowboys vice president of player personnel Gil Brandt reflected on Edwards' tenure with the team once the news broke:

Edwards was with the Cowboys from 1963 to 1975 and made 163 starts over the course of his 181 total appearances with the team. All told, he appeared in three Super Bowls.

According to AL.com's Mark Inabinett, Edwards played on both sides of the ball during his time at Auburn and was a First-Team All-SEC selection in 1961. That year, Edwards recorded 25 catches for 372 yards and a career-high three touchdowns.
