Washington Redskins vs. Philadelphia Eagles Betting Odds, Analysis, NFL Pick
Two NFC East teams looking to end losing streaks will meet in Philadelphia on Sunday as the Eagles (5-7) host the Washington Redskins (6-5-1) in a game that is too close to call at the sportsbooks. The Redskins will go for a series sweep this season by winning for the fifth straight time in the divisional matchup overall.
Point spread: The Redskins opened as one-point favorites; the total was 47.5 early in the week, according to sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark (line updates and matchup report).
NFL pick, via OddsShark computer: 28.0-24.4 Redskins (NFL picks on every game)
Why the Redskins can cover the spread
Washington won the first meeting 27-20 as a three-point home underdog back in Week 6, and a lot has changed since then. The Eagles were 3-1 at the time and coming off their first loss by one point on the road to Detroit before anybody knew how good the Lions would be.
But Philadelphia has gone on to drop seven of nine both straight up and against the spread following their surprising 3-0 start, including that first loss to the Redskins. Teams have also started to figure out rookie quarterback Carson Wentz after some early success.
Why the Eagles can cover the spread
While the Eagles have been struggling to score during a three-game skid, Washington has not played particularly well, either, in losing two straight. The Redskins have surrendered 31 points in consecutive road games to the Dallas Cowboys and Arizona Cardinals, and this will be their third in a row away from home.
The over is 5-0 in Washington's last five games, also proving that the team's defense has struggled, giving up 20 points or more each time during that stretch. That gives Philly a chance.
Smart pick
Oddsmakers at online betting sites had a hard time setting a line on this game, and rightfully so. Therefore, picking a side to win and cover the spread is simply not the way to go here. Instead, the over is the most solid play, especially considering that it has cashed in the previous six divisional games for Philadelphia and in seven of nine on the road for Washington. Both teams will light up the scoreboard in what will end up being a high-scoring affair.
Betting trends
The Redskins are 7-2 ATS in their last nine games on the road against the Eagles.
The Eagles are 5-13 ATS in their last 18 games at home after losing their most recent home game.
The total has gone over in the Eagles' last six games against their division.
