Texans Warn Players Not to Order Room Service in Mexico City During MNF Trip

Adam WellsNov 17, 2016

As the Houston Texans and Oakland Raiders prepare for the NFL's first game in Mexico City since 2005, Texans players recently received a memo advising them to remain in their hotel rooms and not to order room service food.

Per the Associated Press (via USA Today), which obtained a copy of the memo given by the Texans to their players Wednesday, multiple sections with various bullet points featured notable information to ensure the athletes are safe and secure during their trip:

"

A section of the memo under the heading "safety" had a bullet point with: "DO NOT leave the hotel." It was followed by a line advising players to leave all "expensive jewelry at home," not to bring large sums of money and not to use ATMs.

A second section titled "health and performance" has basic tips like drinking only bottled water and avoiding the consumption of ice. It also warned: "Eat all meals in the meal room. DO NOT order room service" and "DO NOT eat outside of the team meal room."

Raiders defensive tackle Dan Williams told the AP he's "on a strict diet so I have to watch what I eat," though the team did not give its players an official memo about what to avoid like the Texans did.

In May, Texans offensive tackle Duane Brown had a 10-game suspension for violating the NFL's policy on performance-enhancing drugs overturned when it was determined hamburgers and steaks he ate during a trip to Mexico triggered the positive test.

The AP noted "some meat produced in China and Mexico may be contaminated with clenbuterol," which is a banned steroid in the NFL.

As a result of Brown's situation, the NFL sent a memo to all of its players to avoid eating meat if they happen to visit Mexico or China because they are responsible for what goes in their body.

The Raiders will be the home team against the Texans on Monday night. The San Francisco 49ers and Arizona Cardinals played the NFL's first game in Mexico City 11 years ago, and it served as the springboard for the league's international series that has featured games in England every year since 2007.
