Martellus Bennett Injury: Updates on Patriots TE's Ankle and Return

Tim DanielsNov 18, 2016

New England Patriots tight end Martellus Bennett had been nursing an ankle injury, but he was ruled active for Sunday against the San Francisco 49ers.

According to the Patriots' official injury report, Bennett was listed as questionable on Friday after putting in limited practices on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

New England acquired Bennett from the Chicago Bears during the offseason to provide depth at tight end behind Rob Gronkowski. It made sense on multiple fronts given Gronk's own injury issues and the team's prior success using offensive sets featuring two tight ends.

The 29-year-old Texas A&M product has remained mostly durable during his career. He missed just nine games over his first eight years, five of which came last year due to a rib injury. He's battled through lingering ankle problems during the current campaign, though.
