NFL Power Rankings Week 11: Predictions for Post-Monday Night Football Standings

Ryan McCrystalNov 14, 2016

In terms of pure entertainment value, Week 10 may have been the best Sunday of the season so far.

The talk of the NFL this year has been low TV ratings, potentially due to a declining product on the field and a lack of quality games. But there was no shortage of great football on Sunday, as multiple games featured tight battles between serious playoff contenders.

And the Sunday was capped off by a classic showdown between the New England Patriots and Seattle Seahawks, who both land in the top three of this week's power rankings.

10. Pittsburgh Steelers

How can a team under .500 land in the top 10?

Admittedly, it feels weird seeing a losing record ranked so high. But the healthy Steelers team that took the Dallas Cowboys down to the wire on Sunday is absolutely among the 10 best teams in the league.

The Steelers have faced arguably the toughest schedule in the league to date, with seven of their nine games coming against teams currently over .500.

The schedule will even out down the stretch, however, as only two of their seven remaining games feature teams above the .500 mark (New York Giants and Baltimore Ravens). It's also worth noting that the Steelers have two games remaining against the winless Cleveland Browns.

If the Steelers offense, which put up 30 points and over 400 yards of total offense against the Cowboys, shows up down the stretch, Pittsburgh will likely close out the season looking like one of the hottest teams in the NFL.

11. Houston Texans

Have we ever seen a less impressive 6-3 team in the NFL?

Thanks to their record, the Texans have to be taken seriously as a playoff contender, but it's tough to view them as a legitimate threat to the top teams in the league.

Houston does have an impressive win over Kansas City on its resume, but the Texans' other five victories have come against teams with a combined 18-28 record.

Further hurting Houston's resume is the fact that the Texans' three losses against the Denver Broncos, New England Patriots and Minnesota Vikings have come by a combined score of 85-22. So the Texans aren't just losing to the good teams—they're getting annihilated.

The Texans travel to Oakland next Monday night and will have an opportunity to prove doubters wrong on the national stage against the 7-2 Raiders.

17. Green Bay Packers

It was easy to shrug off the Packers' struggles after losses to the Minnesota Vikings, Dallas Cowboys and Atlanta Falcons, who all appear to be contenders in the NFC. But it's a lot more difficult to feel confident about Green Bay's ability to turn things around following defeats against the Indianapolis Colts and Tennessee Titans.

Much has been made of Aaron Rodgers' supposed struggles, and it's true that he isn't playing at the elite level we have seen from him for so long. But the more pressing issue in Green Bay is the defense, which continues to be picked apart.

During the Packers' three-game losing streak, their defense has been lit up for over 100 points and 1,000 total yards:

Colts3135572.5
Titans4744696.3

The Packers still have a shot at the postseason thanks to a weak division, but they'll need to turn things around quickly.

They will be on the road for two more weeks, with games at the Washington Redskins and Philadelphia Eagles. If Green Bay can't win at least one of those games, its seven-year playoff streak will likely come to an end.
