Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
Van Noy has started all seven games for Detroit this season, totaling 23 tackles in his first year as a full-time player. He was a second-round pick in the 2014 NFL draft.
Lions tight end Eric Ebron reacted to the news:
This is the second linebacker the Patriots have acquired this season after trading for Barkevious Mingo from the Cleveland Browns in August.
Like Mingo, Van Noy represents a low-risk, high-upside addition for the Patriots hoping to upgrade the linebacking corps. Eric Edholm of Yahoo Sports discussed a reason for the move:
Although the 26-year-old player might not start for New England, he could provide solid depth behind players like Jamie Collins and Dont'a Hightower, who have already dealt with injuries this season.
Meanwhile, it's an interesting move from Detroit's perspective to trade away a starter after winning three games in a row. While Van Noy hasn't been great on the field, the team is light on options with Jonathan Bostic out and DeAndre Levy hurt.
Antwione Williams will get immediate playing time next to Tahir Whitehead while Thurston Armbrister remains the only other option until Levy returns to action.
