Aqib Talib Says Trevor Siemian Is Better Than Brock Osweiler After Win vs. Texans

Following a dominant 27-9 win over the Houston Texans Monday night, Denver Broncos cornerback Aqib Talib endorsed quarterback Trevor Siemian over the departed Brock Osweiler. 

According to Lindsay H. Jones of USA Today, Talib expressed his belief that the unheralded Siemian is superior to Osweiler despite their huge difference in salary: "If you look at it overall, [general manager John Elway] saved a bunch of money. And Trev is a great quarterback, man. He's better than Brock in my eyes. So it's a win-win situation."

The numbers appear to support Talib's assertion, particularly when taking Monday's game into account.

Siemian threw for a modest 157 yards and one touchdown, but Osweiler struggled to the tune of 131 yards and no touchdowns on 22-of-41 passing. The former Bronco averaged a meager 3.2 yards per attempt as well.

In addition to that, Siemian has thrown for eight touchdowns and three interceptions to go along with a quarterback rating of 91.8 this season for the 5-2 Broncos. Osweiler, on the other hand, has eight touchdowns, eight interceptions and a quarterback rating of just 71.9, which is 30th in the league.

Siemian was a relative unknown prior to the start of the regular season and has outperformed his $525,000 salary (per Spotrac) by a significant margin.

Osweiler spurned the Broncos in favor of signing a four-year, $72 million deal with the Texans, according to Spotrac. While Houston is 4-3 and leading the weak AFC South, Osweiler's erratic play has done more harm than good.

The struggling signal-caller was the biggest reason for Houston's offensive issues Monday, as the Texans managed to rush for 140 yards and averaged 5.6 yards per carry against a tough Denver defensive front.

Despite that, head coach Bill O'Brien stopped short of blaming Osweiler, per John McClain of the Houston Chronicle: "He battled hard. He competes. He's got good poise. Tough environment. We all have to do better."

Osweiler showed promise for the Broncos last season in going 5-2 with 10 touchdowns and six interceptions in seven starts, but it is difficult to argue against the notion that letting him walk was the right move.

Not only has Siemian been solid in his place, but the money saved helped significantly in re-signing reigning Super Bowl MVP Von Miller, which is perhaps the biggest positive of all from Denver's perspective.
